Chapter 199 The Snobs of Brookstone

Lira Voss’s POV:

The leader of the pack was a girl in a bright fuchsia gown that clung to every curve. Her makeup was flawless, and her every move screamed high-status privilege. Her wolf soul had a sharp, aggressive scent.

Phoebe didn’t look impressed. “What do you want, Penelope? I’m busy.”

“And who is this?” Penelope asked, her eyes raking over me. I saw the flash of disdain the second she registered my outfit and rank.

Phoebe let out a cold laugh. “Why do you care, Penelope Montgomery?”

Penelope Montgomery didn’t lose her smile, though it turned even more arrogant. “We’re all in the same circle, Phoebe. It’s good to make friends. Brookstone is a small place; it’s better to have allies than strangers, don’t you think?”

I arched an eyebrow, my voice cold. “I appreciate the thought, Miss… Montgomery, is it? But I don’t live in Brookstone, so I doubt we’ll be running into each other much.”

Penelope’s smile wavered. “Is that so? That’s a shame. I was going to be generous and offer you a connection. It’s hard for a low-rank Omega to navigate this world without protection. I thought I’d help you out.”

I just shrugged, completely unimpressed by her ‘generosity.’

Arguing with her was a waste of my time.

Suddenly, one of the girls behind Penelope gasped/staring at me. “Wait… are you Lira Krom? From Smith High in Silverwhip?”

I blinked. “Do I know you?”

I was certain I’d never seen her. My memory for scents and faces was perfect.

The girl’s eyes lit up. “We don’t know each other, but I know you! Those videos of you two years ago were all over our school. And that song you sang? It was a massive hit. I was obsessed with it for months. I can’t believe it’s actually you!”

I hadn’t expected to be recognized after two years. I gave her a small smile. “I’m glad you liked the music.

“I loved it!” she gushed. “But why did you stop? Why haven’t you dropped an album?”

“I have more important things to do,” I said simply. “I don’t have the time for it anymore.”

Penelope let out a sharp, mocking laugh. “Oh, so you’re a singer? I guess your fame was pretty short-lived: I’ve never even heard of you.

“Tell me, Miss Krom, are you signed with a label?”

I gave her a lazy smile. “It was just a hobby. I didn’t expect it to

blow up. As for signing with a label I’m not
