I Chose Me Over My Marriage novel Chapter 101

Struck right where it hurt, Aria's exquisite makeup couldn't mask the ugly twist of her features.

"Lyra, you're stalking us on purpose. Cut the crap. Whatever you just heard, you'd better forget it. And don't you dare breathe a word of it to Max, or I swear I'll make you pay!"

At that moment, her threats were nothing but a joke to Lyra.

Lyra took a step forward, closing the distance between them.

Being half a head taller, Lyra looked down at her with an air of complete and utter dismissal.

That dismissive posture infuriated Aria.

"Who do you think you are, Lyra? Stop acting so high and mighty. You're just riding on the coattails of a good family background. If I were you, I would be living a much more fabulous life."

The bitter jealousy in her eyes was painfully obvious, and frankly, laughable.

"Too bad you aren't me, and you never will be."

One simple sentence ended it all.

With that, Lyra turned and strode out of the restroom with effortless confidence.

Aria didn't try to stop her.

Clearly, she had been stung by those parting words.

Lyra had no desire to waste any more time. She washed her hands and headed for the exit.

But just as she stepped out of the restroom, she froze.

A man stood near the corner of the corridor, backlit by the ambient lighting, his face cast entirely in shadow.

Lyra didn't recognize him.

But remembering the man Aria had been speaking with earlier, a thought crossed her mind.

Could this be... Nathaniel Jude, the man looking to invest in Maxwell?

As if sensing her gaze, the man turned his head toward her.

The moment his eyes landed on Lyra's face, his pupils constricted in a nearly imperceptible tremor.
