Just a second after Lyra and Chloe arrived, the food delivery showed up.
The two of them sat on the rug in the living room.
Miles must have stayed at the villa frequently, or hired someone to clean it, because the place was spotless.
Several bottles of alcohol were lined up on the coffee table.
"Congratulations to my best girl. You finally escaped the Sterling family's misery and successfully divorced Maxwell today."
With that, Chloe offered the first toast, genuinely thrilled for Lyra's newfound freedom.
Lyra accepted the toast and then raised her glass back to her friend.
"And here's hoping my best friend can rid herself of all her troubles soon, too."
It was ironic, really. She had started the divorce process after Chloe, yet her certificate was already in hand, while Chloe and Julian Jude still hadn't finalized theirs.
Because of this, Lyra knew very well that the two of them still harbored feelings for each other. If it weren't for overwhelming family complications, they wouldn't be having these issues.
But family interference was often the most fatal blow to a relationship.
Chloe pouted. "Of course I want to, but that jerk just keeps dragging me along. Thankfully, I got Snowy back recently, which brings me a little comfort."
Lyra chuckled. "I can tell. As long as your fur-baby is around, nothing else matters to you. You'd even put off your own divorce."
Knowing Lyra was teasing her, Chloe reached over and gave her a playful poke on the forehead.
"I think you're doing this on purpose!"
When these two best friends got together, the room was always filled with the most joyous laughter.
Lately at the company, Lyra hadn't been able to truly relax and be herself. Having Chloe by her side naturally lifted her spirits.
Once they had had enough to drink, they called it a night.
