I Chose Me Over My Marriage novel Chapter 131

"Jade, you..."

Maxwell's intended words of gratitude were quickly interrupted by Jade.

"You don't need to thank me so soon. I have to be upfront about this. This project is highly confidential, and very few people know about it right now. But the moment it goes public, it's going to attract a lot of hungry competitors."

She paused, letting her words sink in, before slowly continuing under Maxwell's attentive gaze.

"Now that you've cut ties with the Sterling family, trying to compete against those massive corporations and legacy families on your own leaves you with practically zero odds of winning, unless..."

Maxwell furrowed his brow. "Unless?"

Jade offered a helpless, knowing smile. "Max, you've been in this industry for so many years. Don't you get it by now? If you have someone to vouch for you, someone to act as your backer, then success is practically guaranteed."

The moment those words left her mouth, Maxwell froze completely.

Just as Jade had pointed out, he had navigated this cutthroat world for years. How could he not understand these unspoken rules?

It was just that deep down, he stubbornly refused to believe he had actually sunk to this level of desperation.

Sensing Maxwell's intense reluctance, Jade's expression soured for a brief second before instantly returning to a perfectly polished smile.

"I know you used to be at the top of the world, and being in this position now must be incredibly frustrating. But you have to think about it—if you don't take this step, do you really think you can ever reclaim your former glory?"

Jade's supposed comfort felt like a sharp needle sliding directly into Maxwell's ear.

It was a barb deeply lodged in his heart, one he was entirely powerless to remove.

"It's getting late. Think it over carefully and give me your answer when you're ready."

Smiling, Jade cast a meaningful look at the manila envelope in Maxwell's hands.

"Take a good look at what's inside. I'm confident you'll make the right choice."

With a gentle pat on his shoulder, she turned and headed toward the nearby filming lot.

Maxwell was left standing alone, silently watching her retreating figure, his grip on the envelope tightening until his knuckles turned white.
