I Chose Me Over My Marriage novel Chapter 137

Maxwell didn't answer.

But to Lyra, his silence was all the confirmation she needed.

A sudden, overwhelming wave of exhaustion washed over her.

She looked down and let out a bitter, self-deprecating laugh.

She had never imagined that the affection she had spent years chasing was actually right there all along.

More than that, she never realized that those unreciprocated letters had meant so much to Maxwell.

"And so what?"

Lyra looked back up at him, wiping every trace of complex emotion from her face, staring at him with absolute indifference.

"None of it matters anymore. We are over. Please stop making these pointless attempts. It's not doing either of us any good."

Lyra tried to yank the car door open, but Maxwell's weight was pressing heavily against it, making it impossible to budge.

Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a security camera mounted on the nearby wall. A quick thought sparked in her mind, and she formulated a plan.

"Your new company is just getting off the ground. You probably don't want a public scandal ruining everything at such a critical moment, do you?"

Maxwell followed her gaze to the camera on the wall, and his expression hardened instantly.

Seeing his reaction, Lyra felt zero surprise. It was exactly what she had expected.

"If those letters were truly the reason you liked me, then I honestly think it's pathetic. You and Aria worked so hard to get to where you are. Don't throw it all away over something so trivial."

After delivering that final blow, she could distinctly feel the pressure Maxwell was putting on the door loosen slightly.

Seizing the opportunity, Lyra immediately pulled the door open.

Right before she got in, she added quietly,

"Your love is too cheap."
