"Miles, some of the dishes are out of reach. Make sure to serve CeCe," Eleanor reminded him quietly.
Miles gave a faint hum of acknowledgment but made absolutely no move to do so.
Mr. and Mrs. Chambers exchanged a look, clearly displeased with his lack of manners.
It was CeCe who finally broke the awkward tension.
"It's okay, Mrs. Lennox. I'm actually on a diet right now, so I eat very little. I'm already full anyway."
Seeing how well-behaved and considerate CeCe was, Eleanor's fondness for her only deepened.
Lyra remained completely oblivious to the undercurrents swirling around the table.
Beside her, Harrison kept placing food onto her plate.
Before long, the food was piled high.
"Dad, that's too much. I can't eat all this," Lyra whispered.
Harrison smiled warmly. "It's barely anything. Eat a little more."
Lyra shook her head in fond exasperation and went back to her meal.
As dinner wound down, Harrison noticed Lyra's discomfort and said softly, "If you still have work to do, go ahead and get to it."
Lyra immediately took the out. She nodded at Harrison, then looked over at the Chambers family.
Before she could even excuse herself, CeCe thoughtfully interjected, "I'm sure we'll have plenty of opportunities to see each other again. If you have work, Lyra, go ahead."
At that moment, Lyra's appreciation for CeCe skyrocketed.
She was extremely satisfied with Miles's potential match.
Naturally, Mr. and Mrs. Chambers had no objections.
Lyra handed CeCe the gift she had prepared earlier, excused herself, and retreated upstairs.
Not long after she left, Miles stood up as well.
Before he could say a word, Eleanor preempted him.
"Miles, I'm sure you two young people don't want to sit around listening to us adults talk. Why don't you take CeCe up to your room to hang out?"
