Hearing that, a helpless smile touched the corners of Miles's lips.
"So, I'm just getting the 'good brother' card?"
He murmured it so quietly that Lyra couldn't quite catch it. "Huh?"
Miles shook his head, a wry chuckle escaping him. "It's nothing. But even if we could pretend everything is the same, things have already fundamentally changed. Lyra, I can't be a part of the Lennox family anymore, and I certainly can't go back to being your brother."
Lyra froze for a second. "But..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Miles abruptly pulled the car over to the side of the road.
The next second, he leaned over, trapping Lyra against her seat, his piercing gaze locked onto hers.
"Lyra, I don't want to be your brother anymore."
The raw intensity in his deep eyes left Lyra momentarily breathless, completely out of her depth.
She instinctively turned her head away, her voice strained. "Miles, don't do this."
"Lyra. Look at me."
His voice possessed an undeniable magnetism, pulling her in. As if compelled by some unseen force, she turned her head back to him. Her eyes collided with his, and she saw her own flustered reflection clearly mirrored in his dark pupils.
"I'm not asking you to change how you feel about me right this second, and I'm not demanding that you love me back. I'm just asking you not to push me away."
Lyra's breath hitched.
She had never imagined that Miles would ever use such a vulnerable tone with her.
This man, who had always been her untouchable, fiercely protective shield, was now practically begging her. Not asking for her love, but simply asking her not to run.
A strange, fluttering sensation brushed against her heart, but before she could process it, Miles pulled back.
The physical distance between them was instantly restored, settling back into the familiar dynamic they had always shared.
