"It would save you from being completely useless, always having to rely on women to climb the ladder."
The mockery in Lyra's voice was unmistakable, practically dragging his pride through the mud.
He slammed his fist against the car door, his gaze locked intensely onto her face.
His mind raced, quickly finding an angle to strike back.
"Even if I do rely on women to climb up, weren't you deeply in love with me once too?"
He offered a condescending smirk, attempting to seize control of the narrative.
Little did he know, Lyra couldn't care less.
She looked him dead in the eye and said softly, "I have no problem admitting I was blind back then. What about you? Do you have the guts to admit you've spent your entire life using women? Let's have some self-awareness here. How do you think you latched onto someone as powerful as Mr. Jude? And your little arrangement with Jade? Did you honestly think I didn't know?"
Hearing Jade's name made Maxwell freeze before his expression contorted into sheer rage.
All those humiliating memories flooded his mind in a split second.
Shame and resentment twisted together, consuming his thoughts.
A disdainful smile tugged at Lyra's lips. "Face it, Maxwell. You refuse to admit it, but you're nothing without a woman backing you. Out of everything you had in the past and everything you have now, what did you actually earn yourself?"
"Enough!"
Bang—
Lyra could clearly hear the sickening crunch of the metal as his fist dented the car door.
The force of the blow sent a gust of wind past her ear, leaving a brief ringing in her head.
But she had no intention of letting him off the hook.
