"Watch your tone!"
Catherine shrugged nonchalantly. "Father, whether you want to hear it or not, the damage is done and cannot be reversed. Right now, Miles is the last hope this family has. Just as you both said, he carries the Gardner bloodline anyway."
Ezekiel choked on his words, completely unable to formulate a response.
Seeing this, she turned to Miles. "Miles, don't you have things to do? I drove here. Want to leave with me?"
Miles nodded, glanced at the furious Elias and Ezekiel, and followed Catherine out the door.
Watching their retreating figures, Ezekiel sat down, his brows furrowed deeply. "I hate things I cannot control."
To him, Miles was exactly that kind of existence.
Yet, Miles's capabilities were essential to him.
More accurately, he needed Miles, but he absolutely refused to let him slip out of his grasp.
As if struck by a sudden realization, Ezekiel's eyes lit up.
He turned to Elias and said coldly, "I recall a prominent family has a daughter around Miles's age. Not only is her background impeccable, but she's also gentle and sweet. Miles might take a liking to her. If he settles down and starts a family first, we won't have to worry about tying him to the business."
Of course, there was one crucial point.
In Ezekiel's eyes, Miles valued loyalty and emotion. If they could anchor him with a family, they wouldn't need to worry about anything else.
Beside him, Elias said nothing, entirely tuning out Ezekiel's words.
Catherine's earlier words were still ringing in his ears.
The agonizing struggle over that relationship seemed to perfectly resurface in his mind.
Ezekiel noticed his strange behavior and easily deduced his thoughts.
"What, are you actually regretting it now?"
