It was at this moment that she realized something was terribly wrong.
The instant the AC began circulating air, her discomfort spiked, as if something had been placed in the vents.
The driver, wearing a mask and a hat, seemed to be deliberately hiding his identity.
At this thought, the unease in Lyra's chest morphed into full-blown panic.
"I'm feeling really sick. Please pull over. I need to get out and catch my breath."
But after she spoke, the driver didn't move a muscle, showing zero intention of stopping.
Lyra's suspicions were confirmed.
"Stop the car."
As her words fell, the sound of the doors locking echoed through the cabin.
"Sorry, Ms. Lennox. I've waited way too long for this. Since you practically delivered yourself to me, I have to seize the opportunity. You'll just have to bear with it for a bit."
Though Lyra couldn't see his expression, she could hear the faint amusement in his tone.
"Who are you, and what do you want?"
While speaking, Lyra discreetly slipped her phone out.
Without the driver noticing, she dialed her emergency contact.
However, she failed to remember that her emergency contact was still set to Miles.
By the time she realized it, it was too late.
The car suddenly slammed on the brakes, sending her lurching forward uncontrollably.
Her foggy mind couldn't react in time, and she crashed hard into the back of the front seat.
In an instant, everything went black.
Right before she lost consciousness, she vaguely heard the driver mutter.
"Since when did Preston start dealing with people from Metropolis?"
