For a split second, Lyra didn't even know how to process what she was feeling.
Miles was worried about her, so he had sent someone to protect her in secret.
But the real issue was...
This guy had clearly been tailing her for more than just one day.
Ever since the incident with the painting, Lyra had been convinced that for the past month, she was the only one in the dark about his whereabouts.
Miles had always known exactly where she was and what she was doing.
Even his protection was kept completely under the radar.
He knew everything.
And he had kept her entirely in the dark.
A self-deprecating smile curved Lyra's lips as she looked at the anxious man in front of her.
"Go back and tell him to stop wasting his time on this nonsense."
With that, she turned on her heel and walked away.
The man stood frozen, unsure if he should keep following her. He pulled out his phone, trailing behind at a safe distance, and called Miles.
He reported that he had been made, asked for instructions, and repeated Lyra's exact words.
He was met with a long, agonizing silence.
"Boss? Hello? Are you still there?"
"Yeah," Miles replied softly.
"So... should I keep following her or not?" the man asked tentatively.
"Keep your distance. Don't pull back until you're absolutely sure someone else is there to protect her."
Lyra was far from reckless. After getting ambushed like that, she would undoubtedly be on high alert.
Plus, she was in a city she wasn't entirely familiar with.
Harrison Lennox would have definitely insisted on bodyguards, and it was only a matter of time before they arrived.
Right now, Miles had other, more pressing matters to deal with.
