The vast majority had their own agendas.
They were here to negotiate contracts and poach lucrative projects.
If a deal was struck, it was a massive win for everyone involved.
So, in reality, this golden anniversary was just another high-society battlefield.
Lyra finished the last of her champagne, set the empty glass on a nearby table, and prepared to leave. Just then, she spotted Miles walking toward her from across the room.
But before he could close the distance, a woman suddenly stepped right into his path, blocking him completely.
Miles frowned in annoyance. "Can I help you?"
The woman was undeniably gorgeous, especially her striking, alluring eyes framed by thick, long lashes that gave her an incredibly seductive charm.
"Hello. We haven't officially met. I'm Xenia Xavier."
The moment she dropped her name, Miles instantly knew exactly who she was.
She was the only daughter of the Xavier Family. The Xaviers and the Gardners were practically joined at the hip, and there had even been talks of a marriage alliance. However, since Preston turned out to be completely useless, the whole idea was scrapped.
Now that she was actively seeking him out, Miles didn't need to guess her motives.
"Ms. Xavier. My grandfather sent you, didn't he?"
Xenia blinked, clearly caught off guard that he had seen right through her so fast, but she recovered smoothly.
"He did. But I have to admit, I'm very impressed with you. Now that you've officially returned to the Gardners, you'll inevitably be named the heir. You need heavy-hitting allies to secure that spot. If you marry me, I guarantee the Xavier Family will funnel every single resource we have directly to you."
For any other man in this room, an offer like that would be impossible to refuse.
It was essentially handing him a kingdom on a silver platter.
But unfortunately for her, she was talking to Miles.
