"You've changed, Max. You might refuse to admit it, but take a hard look at everything you've been doing lately."
Having said her piece, Aria spun on her heel and walked away.
Watching her retreating figure, Maxwell stood frozen, as if he had been struck by lightning. He couldn't shake off the weight of Aria's words, and deep down, he knew she had a point.
Why was it that he completely lost control of his emotions whenever he faced Lyra now?
Even when she and Aria were in the same room, why did his eyes always uncontrollably gravitate toward Lyra?
He had dismissed these shifts in his behavior as trivial details.
But now that Aria had dragged them out into the light, the reality of it all hit him like a ton of bricks.
When Lyra walked out of the hospital doors, she saw Miles waiting for her right by the entrance.
This was the fresh start she was meant to sprint toward.
With that thought, her steps toward Miles quickened.
"Have you been waiting long?"
She flashed a radiant, luminous smile, just like the ones she used to give.
Miles shook his head. "Not at all."
He would have waited forever.
Miles pulled the car door open, and Lyra quickly slipped inside.
As the car slowly pulled away from the hospital, Lyra caught sight of Maxwell standing by the entrance.
He stood there completely alone, looking almost pathetic.
Realizing where her thoughts were drifting, Lyra couldn't help but let out a self-deprecating chuckle.
Catching her expression in his peripheral vision, Miles's gaze darkened slightly, but he kept his face perfectly composed.
When the car finally pulled up to the gates of Lennox Manor, Lyra took a deep breath, trying to steady her nerves, but it was absolutely useless.
Miles easily spotted her anxiety and offered a soft reassurance, "Don't overthink it. It's just like old times."
