I Chose Me Over My Marriage novel Chapter 70

She was terrified Lyra might lose her nerve.

And absolutely terrified of whatever toxic stunt Maxwell might pull next.

Lyra completely understood where she was coming from and smiled to reassure her. "Mom, don't worry. I'm never going back to him."

"That's not what I'm worried about." Eleanor sighed heavily. "I'm just afraid he's going to stir up more drama. What if he backs out at the very last second?"

Eleanor's anxiety was entirely justified.

Having watched Maxwell operate for years, she knew exactly how ruthless and manipulative he was.

However...

Lyra looked completely unbothered.

"I hold all the cards right now. If he wants to completely nuke his own life, he's welcome to back out, but he won't."

Protect his iron-grip control over the company, or cling to a completely toxic, dead marriage.

For him, it was the easiest choice in the world.

Hearing Lyra's unshakable confidence, Eleanor couldn't argue, but she still insisted, "Then I'm sending a security detail with you tomorrow. Just in case he tries anything crazy."

Lyra knew Eleanor wasn't going to budge on this, so she nodded in agreement.

Seeing this, Eleanor finally breathed a sigh of relief.

"Alright, go on upstairs. Get some sleep and mentally prepare yourself for tomorrow."

"Okay, you get some rest too."

With that, Lyra leaned in, kissed Eleanor on the cheek, and headed upstairs.

Eleanor was left sitting alone on the sofa, watching Lyra's retreating figure. Her eyes gradually darkened, swirling with calculated thought.

Upstairs in the study.

The soft knock on the door came just as Harrison pushed a stack of reviewed files aside.

"Come in."

The door swung open, and Eleanor walked in, holding a steaming mug of hot milk.

"It's late. Wrap up your work and come to bed."
