Lyra frowned deeply, her beautiful eyes flashing with sheer annoyance.
She was just about to snap back when Miles spoke over her.
"That's right. Your son isn't as handsome as me, and he's definitely not as wealthy. Why on earth would she choose him over me? Besides, your precious son is the one who cheated first. We have all the proof we need. So, what are you going to do about it?"
Hearing Miles say those words, Lyra's jaw practically dropped.
Was this the same stoic Miles she had known her whole life?
Still, she had to admit, his delivery was flawlessly infuriating.
She could only imagine the sheer horror on Mrs. Sterling Sr. and Maxwell's faces if that conversation was ever relayed to them.
The thought alone was incredibly satisfying.
Clearly pushed to the brink of rage, Mrs. Sterling Sr. spat back defensively, "I don't believe a word of it! Lyra would never do something so shameless to my son. Stop spouting your filthy lies and put Lyra back on the phone right now! I need to speak to her!"
Intrigued, Lyra kept her eyes on Miles, dying to see how he'd play this.
In the next second, he suddenly turned to look at her. The golden hues of the setting sun caught his deep, piercing gaze, making his eyes look intensely devoted.
"You're right about one thing. Lyra hasn't done anything to betray your family. The attraction is entirely one-sided on my end. But I know that one day, she'll finally accept my pursuit. As for Maxwell? He's nothing but damaged goods. He isn't even worth being mentioned in the same breath as me."
He sounded so devastatingly sincere.
Lyra's heart unexpectedly skipped a beat, and she quickly looked out the window to hide her flustered expression.
"What did you just say?! Let me tell you..."
Mrs. Sterling Sr.'s hysterical screaming was abruptly cut off as Miles ended the call.
By the time Lyra composed herself and turned back around, Miles had already reverted to his usual calm, impenetrable demeanor.
It was as if that intense display had been nothing but a hallucination.
She let out a helpless laugh. "You're a terrifyingly good actor, Miles. You almost had me completely fooled."
Everyone in their circle knew they weren't blood relatives.
There were always whispers wondering if their dynamic would eventually mirror the toxic entanglement between Maxwell and Aria.
