A crowd was already starting to form around them.
Feeling the weight of their curious stares, Lyra's frown deepened.
"Aria, pulling a PR stunt like this isn't going to save you. It's only going to drag you deeper into the mud. I see you completely ignored the warning I gave you last time."
And honestly, she shouldn't have bothered.
Lyra had regretted giving her any advice the second the words left her mouth.
"No, that's not it! I'm telling the truth! I know I shouldn't have wanted things I couldn't have. I'm letting go of my obsession with him. I swear, from now on, I'm done!"
Tears spilled down Aria's face like a broken string of pearls.
She looked like a picture of fragile heartbreak.
"And?" A sharp, mocking smile curved Lyra's lips. "I divorced him, and I am never going back. Whatever delusions you're spinning have absolutely nothing to do with me, and I couldn't care less. Now move. You're blocking my car."
The Lennox driver, noticing the commotion, quickly got out and hurried over to Lyra's side.
"Ms. Lennox, is everything alright?"
Lyra gave a curt nod. "Just a minor annoyance."
The driver followed her gaze to where Aria was still slumped on the ground. He opened his mouth to shout at her, but Lyra cut him off.
"Leave it. We'll just walk around her."
Without another word, Lyra turned and stepped widely around the weeping girl.
As she climbed into the backseat, she cast one final glance out the window.
Aria was still sitting on the pavement, clearly refusing to break character anytime soon.
"Let's go."
The driver started the engine. Just as the car began to pull away, Aria suddenly lunged forward like a madwoman, throwing herself directly into the path of the vehicle.
The screech of slamming brakes pierced the air. Lyra hadn't had time to buckle her seatbelt. The violent stop threw her forward, sending her head crashing violently against the partition. A sharp gash split her forehead open.
The driver whipped around in a panic. Seeing the blood running down Lyra's face, he let out a horrified gasp.
"Ms. Lennox! Are you okay?!"
