I Chose Me Over My Marriage novel Chapter 87

After the last ambush, Lyra knew perfectly well that Maxwell was capable of anything.

Having a covert security team watching her back would definitely solve a lot of unnecessary problems.

She wasn't going to turn down the protection.

Especially since leaving it in Miles's hands gave her complete peace of mind.

"Got it. I'll let you know when I'm heading out."

"Mhm. Go do what you need to do."

With that, Miles ended the call.

Lyra didn't waste any time. She headed straight back to the design department, plowed through her afternoon tasks, got approval to leave early from Director Lancaster, and walked out of the building.

It was a coincidence, really.

By the time she arrived at the Sterling Group headquarters, it was the peak of the evening rush hour.

Walking against the tide of exiting employees, Lyra could feel a barrage of stares locking onto her.

She kept her eyes dead ahead, striding through the grand entrance, only to be blocked by a security guard at the turnstiles.

"I'm sorry, but without an appointment, you are not permitted inside the Sterling Group."

The man blocking her path wore an incredibly arrogant smirk, looking at her like she was beneath his notice.

He looked familiar.

There was zero chance he didn't know who she was.

It was obvious Maxwell had issued a strict kill order at the door.

"He knows I'm coming."

Lyra met his gaze, a cold, mocking smile playing on her lips.

The guard let out a condescending scoff. "I'm sorry, but I'm just doing my job. No appointment, no entry."

Lyra couldn't be bothered to waste her breath on a pawn. She pulled out her phone and dialed Maxwell's number.

He ignored the first call. She had patience, so she dialed a second time, and then a third. Finally, the line connected.

Maxwell's arrogant, victorious voice immediately filtered through the speaker.

"Finally remembered I exist, did you?"
