It was a call from Mrs. Sterling Sr.
"Maxwell, do you have any idea that your grandfather met with Aria? I heard he told you to sever ties with her, so why are things getting worse? Now you two are even more inextricably linked!"
"Your grandfather is furious with you right now, and Arthur and his family are over at the estate, undoubtedly whispering poison in his ear. If you don't fix this mess immediately, you can kiss your position at the company goodbye!"
Her words were a stark reminder that today was the deadline he had agreed upon with Godfrey.
If he couldn't provide an answer tonight, he would be forced to step down, whether he wanted to or not.
"I know."
With that, Maxwell hung up the phone, his gaze turning sharp.
"Get the car ready."
...
The suburban villa.
Once the car parked, Maxwell marched straight to the door and rang the bell.
Little did he know, Aria had been aware of his arrival the moment his car entered the gated community.
The doorbell chimed for a while before someone finally answered.
Maxwell's burning anger faltered the second he saw her.
She looked incredibly haggard, her face streaked with tears.
In that brief moment, his mind drifted to the past.
Why had he fallen for Aria in the first place?
At first, he genuinely only saw her as an adopted sister.
When did those feelings change?
He figured it must have been during high school.
Back then, his cousin, Marcus, soaked up all the limelight.
They were the Sterling heirs, but the contrast was undeniable.
