Chapter 137
Chapter 137
Among the guests, Mr. Thompson–who had dealt with Marcus a few times before–stepped forward.
“Mr. Morgan, what is the meaning of this? Tonight is supposed to be the Morgan Group’s celebration banquet. Surely you don’t intend to ruin your own event?”
Marcus’s cold gaze swept across the hall.
“Ten minutes ago, Sophie, manager of the design department, was abducted. Until she is found, no one leaves this place.”
His voice was low and merciless, like a judge from hell.
The guests shivered, dread running down their spines. Not a single one dared raise another objection.
Seeing Marcus’s expression, Mr. Thompson retreated quickly, swallowing whatever else he had wanted to say.
The guards scoured the hotel from top to bottom, but found no trace of Sophie or her captor.
Chris hurried over.
“Sir, our men found nothing. There’s no sign of Sophie, and the man in black who took her has vanished.”
The moment he finished speaking, the air pressure seemed to drop.
Standing so close, Chris felt crushed, barely able to breathe.
Zack’s face was drawn with urgency.
“How could there be no trace at all? People don’t just disappear into thin air.”
Marcus’s hand clenched at his side.
“Activate the SkyEye system.”
Chris froze.
“Sir, opening SkyEye is no trivial matter. Shouldn’t we first consult the chairman-”
“Do it.” Marcus’s tone cut like a blade.
“If there’s still no lead in ten minutes, consider yourself done here.”
Chris dared not stall further and rushed off.
The guests exchanged uneasy looks. They were important figures in Riverland themselves; while they could respect Marcus temporarily, they would not tolerate indefinite confinement.
Finally, Mr. Thompson stepped out again.
“Mr. Morgan, your men have searched everywhere with no results. Isn’t it time to release us? In Riverland, we may not rival the Morgans, but we are men of standing. Keeping us imprisoned like this will cause everyone to lose face once word gets out.”
Marcus’s eyes were ice, his tone brooking no defiance,
“No one leaves until Sophie is found.”

Chapter 137
Mr. Thompson’s brows furrowed, his fleshy face twisting with indignation.
This is too much! When your grandfather led the Morgan Group, I dealt with him as well. Even he wasn’t so autocratic. Do you mean to show us all such contempt? If we insist on leaving, what can you possibly do?”
He turned and strode toward the exit.
Before he could take more than a few steps, two guards lunged forward, pinning him to the ground.
Being overweight, he went down hard, the strain popping the buttons off his shirt, leaving him humiliated before everyone.
Marcus’s long, narrow eyes swept the hall.
“Anyone else?”
At once, everyone stepped back, silent and cowed.
Among the crowd, Lena’s face drained of color. Her hands twisted the hem of her gown so tightly she nearly tore it apart.
Liam noticed and leaned close.
“Lena, tell me honestly. Do you know something?”
“Brother, what are you saying? How could I do something so reckless?” Lena forced a quick excuse, eyes darting away.
“I just didn’t expect Uncle Marcus to value Sophie so much–that he’d risk offending half of Riverland’s elite just to find her.”
Liam’s eyes darkened, rage simmering beneath.
Just how far have Sophie and my uncle gone, that he would go this far for her?
Suddenly, Marcus’s phone rang, shattering the silence.
He answered, irritation flashing in his eyes.
“Marcus! I don’t care what you’re doing–stop it immediately!”
The old patriarch’s voice roared with fury.
“You activated SkyEye without authorization, and now you’ve locked in all of Riverland’s most powerful families. For a woman? Have you lost your mind?”
“If that’s all you have to say, I’ll hang up,” Marcus replied, voice cold as steel.
“Do you know who you’re speaking to? Stop this at once and return to the estate!”
Marcus’s eyes were dark, his grip on the phone whitening his knuckles.
“I’ll return once she’s found. Then you may punish me as you please.”
He cut the line, the fury inside him only growing.
Half an hour had passed. Where the hell was Sophie?
Then his gaze locked on Liam and Lena.

His eyes narrowed. He strode toward them, the oppressive weight of his presence forcing the crowd to part, forming a path for him.
Lena dropped her head, body trembling. When the gleam of polished shoes stopped before her, every muscle went rigid,
“Where is Sophie?” Marcus’s voice was ice cold.
Lena shrank back, hiding behind Liam, silent.
“Uncle,” Liam spoke quickly, “Lena doesn’t know where Sophie is. You’ll only scare her like this.”
Marcus’s eyes shifted to him, sharp as blades.
