Chapter 159 The Woman Beside Marcus
Chapter 159 The Woman Beside Marcus
“Next time you want to lie, at least make it believable.”
Marcus sneered, twisting open another bottle and downing it straight.
Chris’s brow furrowed, voice full of concern.
“Mr. Morgan, you’ve been drinking all afternoon. At this rate, your body won’t hold out.”
Chris had flown back with Marcus on the private jet. The moment they landed, they learned the old master had made his move. Marcus went straight to the Morgan estate, leaving Chris outside to wait.
Chris didn’t know exactly what had happened inside, but when Marcus came out, he had headed straight to a bar and started drowning himself in liquor without a word.
Knowing persuasion was useless, Chris had already tipped off Zack. He should be arriving soon.
“Marcus! Not cool, man. How can you drink alone without me?”
Zack burst through the door, shooting Chris a look. Chris gave a slight nod and slipped out of the room.
Zack dropped into the seat beside Marcus, cracked open a bottle of whiskey, and took a long swig.”
“Chris said you’ve been here all afternoon. What the hell happened? Don’t tell me this is about Sophie?”
Marcus’s hand froze mid–drink for a split second before he continued as though nothing had happened.
Zack knew he’d hit the mark and pressed on.
“Listen, man. I don’t know all the details, but if you’re sulking over Sophie, then you’re in the wrong here.”
BANG!
Marcus slammed the bottle onto the table. His sharp eyes locked on Zack, shadows dark and venomous.
Zack’s heart skipped, but he forced himself to continue.
“Think about it. You pulled all those stunts, then suddenly vanished. Of course she’s mad. Even if you two were already together, disappearing like that is serious. No wonder she’s pissed.”
“Heh.”
Marcus let out a bitter laugh, eyes glinting faintly with pain.
“She has no feelings for me. Why would she even bother to be angry?”
“Tsk, tsk.”
Zack rubbed his chin. “Sounds to me like you’re mad she doesn’t care enough.”
“If you can’t say anything useful, then shut up.”
Marcus’s voice was frigid as he raised the bottle again, forcing down another burning gulp. Only the searing alcohol dulled that faint, gnawing ache
inside.

Chapter 159 The Woman Beside Marcus
Meanwhile, Sophie sat frowning at her phone, her delicate face scrunched tight.
That noisy background was clearly from some bar, not a meeting.
Marcus had left an important conference abroad to fly back to Riverland–only to avoid her calls, avoid seeing her?
What the hell was this man playing at?
The more she thought, the more absurd it felt. She yanked open a short video app to distract herself.
After a few swipes, a notification popped: Breaking Hot Topic!
One tap–and her face darkened.
It was a post uploaded just three minutes ago by a notorious paparazzo. No caption, just photos. In under three minutes, it had already shot to the trending list.
The pictures showed a man in a black suit leaning against a woman. The dim lighting couldn’t hide the woman’s shy expression.
The man’s face was mostly turned away, captured only in shadow and profile.
But Sophie recognized him instantly.
The comments flew fast:
“Damn, this guy is gorgeous. I want every detail in ten minutes. He’s my new future husband!”
“Sure he’s handsome, but why would a few photos blow up like this? Anyone care to explain?”
“You must not read business news. That’s Marcus, president of the Morgan Group!”
“He always looks so cold and serious in finance news. Seeing him relaxed like this… even hotter.”
“Who’s that woman with him? How lucky can you get? God, I’d sell my soul to be her right now!”
“Wasn’t he supposed to be famous for avoiding women? When did he start acting like a playboy?”
Sophie’s face hardened as she scrolled.
She quickly swiped back to the top, wanting to save the pictures–but the screen flashed: This post no longer exists.
Refreshing the trending list, Marcus’s name had vanished completely. Even searching his name pulled up nothing.
Only Marcus himself could have erased a wildfire post this cleanly.
