Chapter 167
“Don’t be so reckless. That scum isn’t worth us taking desperate risks.”
“I’m drafting a statement. I’ll call you later.”
Sophie hung up and sat at her computer.
When cornered, honesty was her only weapon.
Lies could always be torn apart, but the truth would stand. As long as she had done nothing wrong, the mud wouldn’t stick forever.
She typed out the full story–the engagement, Liam’s schemes, everything–though she kept the baby’s father a secret.
Her pale fingers hit “Send.” Sophie leaned back on the sofa, breathing deep.
She didn’t know if this would change anything. But it was all she could do.
Within minutes, her post rocketed up the trending list.
Sherry Shaw, Ethan Chandler, and Ryan Mason all shared it from their private accounts, publicly showing their support.
Even though Sophie had asked that the Chandler family stay out of it, her father still ordered the Chandler Group’s official account to repost with the words:
“Pregnancy before marriage has never been a woman’s fault. Blame should never fall solely on innocent women.”
That statement hit hot search instantly. Countless women with similar experiences began to speak out.
“A child can’t be conceived by one person. Why is it always the woman who gets the shame?”
“If Sophie didn’t cheat, then what business is it of yours if she’s pregnant before marriage? Who gave you the right to judge her?”
“Don’t forget–people in the circle already said Liam cheated with his foster sister. Compared to that, what’s so terrible about Sophie being pregnant?”
Reading the Chandler Group’s support, Sophie’s nose stung with emotion.
With so many people behind her, she couldn’t let Liam’s schemes succeed.
But before the tide could fully turn, Liam posted his own statement.
*“I know nothing about the child, I never understood why you left me so suddenly, Sophie, but now I do.
“All these years, my love for you was real. If you think life with him will be happier, then I give you my blessing.
“Sophie, may you and your child find happiness. I’ll spend my life cherishing our memories.“*
Sophie nearly gagged when she read it.
Feigning devotion–Liam’s specialty. He only wanted to swing public opinion back against her.
And it worked.
“So she did cheat? Disgusting!”

“I almost cried when the Chandler Group supported her, but now? What a waste of sympathy.”
“The Chandler Group’s morals are rotten too! Hoycott their products–kick this company out of Riverland!”
“Liam is so sincere. They both made mistakes–why can’t they just get back together?“”
Sophie shut her laptop with a heavy sigh. Sho’d done all she could. More struggling wouldn’t change anything.
She washed up and forced herself to sleep.
The next morning, her phone buzzed with a text.
Bleary–eyed, she checked–and woke up instantly.
It was from IIR: she was placed on indefinite leave.
Clearly Morgan Group’s response to the scandal.
She wasn’t surprised. Scrolling down, she found a text from Ryan Mason:
Meet me at lunch. I’ve got something for you.
She freshened up and went to the restaurant. Ryan was already seated.
“These are the files I collected–proof of Liam’s affairs. See if they help.” He slid her a flash drive,
Sophie tucked it away. “Even if we expose this now, it won’t change much. But thank you,”
Ryan studied her, then said, “I know it won’t fix things. But there is another way,
“Liora still has influence. If you reveal you’re her, the scandal will vanish. Everyone will focus on that.”
“Online outrage fades fast. Soon they’ll only talk about Liora–not the pregnancy,”
Sophie shook her head. “I won’t let the name Liora be tainted.
“Shifting attention only treats the symptoms. Someone will bring it up again later. And I won’t hide–because I’ve done nothing wrong.”
Ryan’s eyes filled with pain.
Easy to say. Harder to endure the mockery of millions.
“Don’t worry, I’ll handle it.” She gave him a small smile.
He sighed deeply, “Does Marcus know? What does he think?”
Sophie’s gaze flickered, then smoothed,
“This was my choice, Keeping the baby is on me. Whatever comes of it is my burden. I won’t drag him down too.”
She didn’t know if Marcus had ordered her suspension. And she didn’t dare ask
The mind of a man at the top was impossible to read.
“Enough about this. After lunch, I’m shopping for Dad’s birthday gift.” She changed the subject with forced cheer, and picked up her chopsticks.
Ryan didn’t push further.
After eating, they parted ways. Sophie went to the nearby mall to shop.

“Don’t tell me Liam sent you too?”
Sophie’s tone dripped with disdain. “Doesn’t he ever get tired of playing the fake–hero routine?”
For a split second, guilt flashed across Nina Monroe’s face. “Sophie, stop talking nonsense. I don’t know what you mean.”
“Oh, right–I almost forgot. Liam was already dismissed from Morgan Group. If the Director’s gone, then his assistant doesn’t matter either.”
“With no job tying you to him, he can’t order you around anymore. So why are you suddenly here picking a fight with me?”
She didn’t wait for an answer.
“Maybe because you’re too dim to realize you’re dragging the Monroe family down with you, so you came here just to embarrass yourself.”
Heads turned at her words. Shoppers began whispering, watching the confrontation.
Nina’s hands clenched at her sides. “Sophie, you’re the one who’s pregnant out of wedlock. If people laugh at anyone, it’s at your family, not mine.”
