“Rest for a while. Leave the rest to me.
Sherry Shaw shot him an angry glare. “I might be just a step away from finding Sophie–why are you stopping me?”
“Do you know why Sophie told us to find Marcus instead of her?” Ethan Choice was low, his gaze dark. “Because she knew we’d never be able
to find her. Or even if we did, we wouldn’t be able to get her out.”
Sherry’s face tightened, her voice turning cold.
“Whoever took her, why can’t the combined power of the Chandlers and Shaws get her back?”
“You’re not stupid. You should already know the answer.” Ethan’s tone sank.
The thought hit Sherry like lightning, her pupils shrinking in shock. If it was really him behind Sophie’s disappearance, then yes–their only hope was Marcus.
She slumped back, realization dawning, and finally stopped pounding at the keyboard. She pulled on an eye mask and, within minutes, fell asleep.
By nightfall, their plane touched down at the city where Marcus was.
According to Ethan’s investigation, Marcus had come here because one of Morgan Group’s branches was in crisis–a crisis so severe it could shake the entire foundation of the company. That was why his movements were so hard to pin down: he was in the middle of an international meeting.
The moment their car stopped, Sherry bolted out and ran straight for the building. Thanks to Ethan’s arrangements, no one dared to block their way.
At the door of the conference room, Chris, Marcus’s secretary, frowned at the unexpected intruders.
“Miss Shaw, Mr. Chandler–how did you even find this place?”
“Cut the crap. We need Marcus. Is he inside?”
Before Chris could react, Sherry pushed forward, but he held her back.
“Mr. Morgan is in the middle of a meeting. No one is allowed to-”
“Sophie’s missing.”
Ethan’s words sliced through the air. “Get us inside. Now.”
Chris froze for a beat, then spun on his heel and rushed into the room.
The tense conference fell silent at his intrusion. Marcus’s brows knitted in displeasure.
Chris had no choice but to bow low and speak quickly.
“Mr. Morgan, Mr. Chandler and Miss Shaw are outside. They say Miss Chandler has gone missing.”
Marcus’s eyes iced over. He didn’t say a word–just strode out.
The room buzzed with whispers until Chris cleared his throat sharply.
“Mr. Morgan made it clear: if you can’t solve these problems, there’s no place for you in this company. Morgan Group doesn’t keep dead weight. Instead of gossiping, you’d better focus on fixing the crisis if you want to stay employed.”

Chapter 172
No one dared argue. Chris finally let out a breath of relief. When it came to Sophie, he knew Marcus would drop everything. Since he couldn’t stop him, all he could do was hold the line.
Marcus emerged, radiating lethal cold.
“Tell me everything.”
Ethan delivered the facts in a few clipped sentences.
Marcus’s gaze darkened. He looked at his bodyguard.
“Ready my jet. We’re going back to the manor.”
Orders given, he didn’t spare another word. Sherry and Ethan followed him onto the private plane without protest.
By the dead of night, the jet landed on the old Morgan estate’s private runway.
Marcus turned to them, his voice flat.
“From here on, stay out of it. I’ll bring her back safely.”
He left them with that and disappeared into the manor.
Sherry made to follow, but Ethan blocked her.
“Move! If the old man really has Sophie, Marcus can’t handle this alone. We have to help!”
“The Morgans are a swamp. The more we know, the deeper we sink. Marcus doesn’t want us inside because he’s protecting us.” Ethan’s eyes were fixed, resolute.
“When Marcus gives his word, he delivers. If he says he’ll bring Sophie back, he will.”
“You’re gambling her safety on his character?” Sherry’s eyes reddened. “He’s ruthless in business. Why would he care about Sophie?”
“It’s not a gamble.” Ethan’s voice was hoarse. “Sophie’s child…might be his.”
Sherry froze, stunned into silence. She’d never dared imagine that possibility–but Marcus’s every move suddenly made sense.
“The old man wouldn’t abduct her without reason. The only explanation is he’s already discovered the truth.” Ethan’s expression hardened.
“And if it’s true, Marcus will never let anything happen to her.”
He pulled Sherry away. They both knew Marcus’s methods were far beyond theirs. If anyone could bring Sophie back, it was him. All they could do was wait.
Inside the grand hall, the patriarch sat at the head of the table, calm as ever, as if Marcus’s arrival was no surprise.
