Chapter 208
Sophie, what did Marcus mean just now? Does that mean you two are officially together?”
Ethan Chandler had never been in a relationship, so he couldn’t quite figure out what was going on between Marcus and Sophie. They seemed to have gone through a lot together, but at the same time, nothing had been made official. For example, Marcus had never once said out loud that he liked her.
“Don’t take his words too seriously, Ethan.” Sophie paused, then added, “And tell Mom and Dad the same. They shouldn’t overthink it either. Marcus was just talking casually.”
“You know their concerns.” Ethan’s tone was serious. “Marcus hasn’t confirmed your relationship, yet now he wants to move in. If things don’t work out, it could damage your reputation. But if they refuse him outright, they’re worried it might upset him and strain things between you
two.”

“I get it. That’s why they left the choice to me. It’s their way of showing they trust me, and I won’t drag our family into an awkward situation over my personal feelings.”
As she spoke, Sophie tugged Ethan by the sleeve toward the living room.
“Alright, don’t worry about me. You should be worrying about yourself–like finding a girlfriend. From what I’ve seen, you and Sherry have been spending a lot of time together. What do you think about her?”
Ethan froze, his face stern.
“Sophie, don’t joke about that. Sherry and I aren’t like that.”
“Fine, if you say so.” Sophie shrugged, clearly not convinced.
“Anyway, Sherry’s staying over tonight. Since you’re not interested, I’ll just take her upstairs with me.”
With that, she darted into the living room, grabbed Sherry by the arm, and dragged her toward her bedroom.
Ethan watched the two figures disappear and let out a helpless smile. Dropping onto the sofa, he pulled out his phone and sent a game invite to his online teammate.
The reply came quickly:
“I’m busy tonight, can’t play.”
Ethan sighed silently at the screen.
Upstairs, Sherry put down her phone after sending the message. She sat cross–legged, looking at Sophie.
“Okay, spill it. What’s really going on now?”
Sophie pressed her lips together and hugged a stuffed animal as she lay back on the bed.
“It feels… kind of unclear, you know? He says he’ll take responsibility for me, but then he doesn’t actually do anything afterward.”
Sherry lay down beside her.

Chapter 208
“He gave up the Morgan Group for you. If that’s not something, then what is?”
“I know, and I’m touched. But I still feel like there’s a piece missing–some sort of confirmation. We both like each other, but I don’t know what 1 really mean to him. We’re closer than friends, but calling me his girlfriend doesn’t feel quite right either.”
“Then just ask him directly.” Sherry nudged her.
Sophic shook her head.
“It’s not that I don’t want to, it’s that I’m afraid. After what Liam did to me, I can’t bring myself to take the first step anymore. And now that I’m carrying Marcus’s baby, if I keep asking for answers, it feels like I’m pressuring him with the child. I don’t want that. I don’t want him to be with me out of responsibility.”
Sherry’s heart ached for her.
“That scumbag Liam really did a number on you.”
“Forget him,” Sophie muttered, rolling over to switch off the lamp. “It’s late. Let’s sleep.”
“You go ahead. I’ll play a couple more rounds.”
Sophie paused mid–movement and turned back.
“With the same teammate as before?”
“Yeah. He asked me to play earlier, but I said no. Maybe now he’ll be on.”
Sophie gave her a meaningful look.
“Sherry, what do you think of my brother?”
“Honestly? Not much.” Sherry set her phone aside and looked Sophie in the eye.
“He overthinks everything. When you went missing, he just kept saying, ‘Stay calm, Marcus will find her.‘ It drove me crazy! He was so passive, it made me furious.”
