Chapter 210
He held tight to the hand he had just kissed, leading Sophie out of the car.
“Come on, let’s shop for clothes!”
His tone was upbeat, his good mood obvious.
Sophie followed him, still trying to steady the frantic beat of her heart.
Had he just been…flirting with her?
He was insane!
Marcus took her to a boutique that specialized in high–end custom fashion.
It was well–known in Riverland for catering to wealthy women whose figures weren’t perfect, creating tailored pieces that flattered while hiding flaws.
These imported luxury fabrics, cut by the hands of top designers, not only showcased their beauty but transformed the wearer entirely. Marcus didn’t want Sophie to feel her sense of elegance slipping away just because she was pregnant.
“This place needs an appointment, doesn’t it?” Sophie asked, surprised.
If Marcus had brought her here back when he was still in power, she wouldn’t have thought twice. But now that he had lost everything, how could a man without wealth or status still get her through the door?
Before he could answer, the manager came out to greet them. She gave a polite nod, her gaze settling on Sophie.
“Miss Chandler, this way, please.”
Sophie followed inside, listening as the manager introduced the fabrics. Rare and exquisite, each one was a masterpiece.
In no time, Sophie found herself drawn to several patterns. The manager, perceptive and quick, instructed the staff to set aside exactly the ones Sophie had admired, even though Sophie hadn’t spoken a word.
Impressed, Sophie kept her reaction hidden behind a calm face. But in her mind, gears were turning. Ever since resigning from the Morgan Group, she had been considering starting her own brand. Seeing the manager’s professionalism, Sophie couldn’t help but imagine how to lure such talent to her
side.
Unaware of Sophie’s thoughts, the manager continued with flawless composure, showing her sketches tailored to Sophie’s style.
Marcus noticed Sophie drifting. “What’s on your mind?”
Caught, she shook her head. “Nothing. Let’s keep looking.”
She turned back to the designs, wonder in her eyes. Sophie had only dabbled in fashion–her last collection launch had been a desperate gamble that somehow sparked hidden potential.
But standing here, confronted with world–class design, she realized just how small her experience was. A slight difference in tailoring could completely change the effect of the same fabric.
“These designs are incredible,” she blurted. “Why don’t I see these designers in international competitions?”
The manager faltered, glancing at Marcus.

Chapter 210
He answered smoothly. This boutique belongs to the Hills Group Their designers don’t care about fame They font want tocasate
Sophie nodded, admiration in her eyes. “The founder of Hills must have real vision to gather so many talented people.
Marcus’s lips curled almost imperceptibly, but he said nothing.
Sophie selected several styles and tried on sample pieces. The manager remained poised, her compliments measured, professional, redes sympa The more time Sophie spent with her, the more she wanted this woman on her team.
“Miss Lynch,” Sophie asked carefully, “if you don’t mind my asking–how’s your salary here?”
The manager blinked, then smiled politely. “Why do you ask, Miss Chandler?”
“To be honest, I plan to launch my own brand. I’d love to have someone like you.”
“Thank you for the offer, but I doubt I’ll ever leave here.”
Sophie was puzzled but let it drop. “I see, I was being too forward. My apologies.”
“Not at all. I’m honored by your interest,” the manager replied graciously.
After settling on fabrics and cuts, Sophie left the fitting room.
Marcus, still waiting on the sofa with his baseball cap pulled low, looked up. Despite the disguise, his aristocratic aura was unmistakable.
“All done?”
UP
“Yeah. Let’s check out another place.”
She tugged his hand, hurrying out. Marcus caught her urgency. Once outside, he asked, “Why the rush?”
Embarrassed, Sophie confessed about her failed attempt to recruit the manager.
Marcus smirked. “Build your brand first. Who knows, maybe one day she’ll come looking for you.”
“That’s too good to be true. She was discovered and trained by Hills. Why would she ever leave for me?” Sophie sighed.
