Chapter 215
The auction officially began, and while the items being showcased at the start were valuable, Sophie wasn’t particularly interested.
Bored, she scanned the entire room and noticed a familiar figure in the right front.
A sly smile crossed Sophie’s face, and she knew exactly how to secure the necklace without much effort.
As the next item was brought out, Sophie calmly raised her paddle.
“Five hundred and fifty thousand!”
“Is anyone going to bid higher?”
As soon as the auctioneer’s voice dropped, the figure in the right front raised their paddle.
Sophie’s smile deepened, and she raised her paddle again.
The figure turned to look at Sophie upon hearing her bid.
When Sophie saw Lena’s face, she wasn’t surprised.
Lena tilted her chin slightly, her expression one of superiority as if looking down on everyone.
She put down her paddle and lightly tapped the table three times.
“Raise the stakes! Lot number eight, raise the stakes!”
Instantly, the entire room turned to look at Lot number eight.
Lena’s lips curled into a smug smile, her face full of pride.
Anything Sophie set her eyes on, Lena had to snatch away, especially since she wasn’t lacking money anymore!
Others recognized Lena as well and immediately started complimenting her.
“Ah, it’s Miss Morgan! Oh, no, I should call you Mrs. Morgan now, right?”
“Liam is now such an important figure around Old Master Morgan, and we hope that as Mrs. Morgan, you can help us out, so we can make a good impression on Liam!”
After a round of flattery, Lena was nearly overwhelmed with praise.
She tilted her chin higher, thoroughly enjoying the attention.
Sophie saw that all eyes were now on Lena and, without any expression, stared at the pearl necklace that had just been brought out.
She took the opportunity, raising her paddle when no one was paying attention
After three strikes of the gavel, Sophie had successfully bid for the necklace.
Only then did the others realize what had happened. They started to clamour.
“Did that pearl necklace get sold already? How did that happen so quickly?”
“I came here just for that necklace! If my wife finds out I didn’t even get a chance to bid before someone took it, she won’t let me off the hook!”

“We didn’t even react in time, the bid should be voided. Bring the necklace back out and auction it again!”
The room was in chaos.
The auctioneer’s loud voice rang out: “Three strikes, the bid is final. No chances for a change of mind.”
“The first half of the auction is over. Please take a break and await the second half of the items!”
The curtain on the auction stage slowly lowered, and the commotion in the rooin gradually died down.
Sophie stood up and walked toward the backstage area.
Her goal for coming today had already been accomplished–pay for the necklace and leave.
“Sophie, stop right there!”
Lena’s sharp voice rang out.
Sophie frowned but didn’t stop walking.
She didn’t want to waste her time with a crazy person like Lena!
“Sophie, I told you to stop! Did you hear me?!”
Lena followed Sophie backstage. Many of the people who had flattered Lena earlier also followed, eager to watch the drama unfold.
Once backstage, Sophie handed the check to the staff, who was about to verify it when Lena’s voice interrupted.
“Sophie, Marcus is bankrupt, and your Chandler family won’t last long either. Are you sure this check is valid?”
Lena sneered at the staff. “You’d better check that check thoroughly. Don’t let her fool you!”
The staff checked the information and then looked at Sophie.
“I’m sorry, Miss Chandler, but the amount on your check doesn’t match.”
“The final bid for Lot 12 was two million three hundred thousand, but this check only covers three hundred thousand.”
As soon as Lena heard this, the mockery in her eyes deepened.
“Sophie, you’re really embarrassing!”
“You can only put down a fraction of the two million worth of items? Are you trying to play us for fools?”
Sophie remained unfazed, her voice calm. “Let’s not talk about whether I’m playing anyone. If I remember correctly, didn’t you just raise the stakes?”
“Before you mock me, you should at least secure your own item.”
“Otherwise, people might think you’re just all show and no substance.”
“Heh.” Lena sneered and handed her bank card to the staff. “Go ahead, I’m not like some people who act rich when bidding but become meek when it’s time to pay!”
Sophie ignored her taunts, simply sitting quietly to the side.
The staff verified the information and spoke up.
“Mrs. Morgan, the item you bid on was successfully won for two million. Would you like to proceed with the payment?”

“Two million?” Lena’s expression faltered, and she gasped.
If she remembered correctly, the item she had bid on was a bracelet made from seaside rocks,
While the bracelet had sentimental value, it didn’t have much intrinsic value in terms of materials or collectability.
