Chapter 218
“I’ve worked hard to get to where I am today. I thought no one else but me was qualified to sit in the CEO position, but Grandpa Mergan says I have a stain on my record, so I can’t take the role?”
“The only stain I have is Lena. If you can really help me get rid of her, I’d be more than happy!”
“She’s not worth my hands getting dirty.”
Marcus sneered, his gaze icy. “Liam, if you’re so unwilling, why don’t you consider overthrowing the old man and taking control yourself?”
“If you truly have that kind of courage, I might just look at you differently.”
Liam’s grip on his phone tightened. “Uncle, what do you mean by that?”
“If you want to know, meet me at the top of Morgan Group tonight.”
With that, Marcus hung up and drove off.
In the following days, Marcus never showed up again. There wasn’t even a call.
Sophie spent her days lying in bed after meals, playing on her phone. Though she said she was playing, she was actually just looking at old chat messages between her and Marcus, hoping for a new message.
But after waiting for three full days, there was nothing.
On the fourth day, Sophie began to panic.
She dropped her hesitation and began messaging Marcus frequently, hoping to get a reply.
The messages seemed to sink into the void, with no response at all.
The news online was the same. After the press conference, Marcus’s group continued moving forward under Gideon’s leadership.
Everyone had expected that Marcus’s Group and Hills Group would soon finalize a contract, but several days passed without a word.
Luckily, under Gideon’s leadership, Morgan Group hadn’t run into any issues. There wasn’t any mistake anyone could catch.
For a time, it seemed like the power struggle in the Morgan family had come to a close.
No one spoke of Marcus’s fall anymore, and the hype died down.
Even when Sophie searched Marcus’s name online, there was no longer any special entry.
It was as if he had disappeared from the world entirely.
A week later, Sophie could no longer take it. She dialed Marcus’s number.
After a long series of ringing, a mechanical female voice responded, and the call was automatically disconnected.
Sophie, feeling unsettled, quickly dialed Zack’s number.
The call was quickly picked up. Before Zack could say anything, Sophie rushed to speak.
“Zack, do you have any news about Marcus? Can you still reach him?”
“I haven’t been able to contact him for over a week either. But don’t worry, when he’s busy, he turns off his phone or puts it on silent. This happens al

the time. Don’t think too much into it”
Zack pansed and then added, “Before Marcus left, he specifically asked me to keep an eye on your health. You’ve been avoiding me these past few days, so how are you feeling? Is everything okay?”
“I’m fine, just a bit worried about Marcus.”
Sophie’s voice sounded tired.
Perhaps it was because of the past few days of worrying, but she felt drained, unable to gather any energy.
That’s why she had avoided Zack’s visits. She had no energy to deal with anything or anyone.
“Marcus is invincible, he’ll be fine. But you need to pay more attention to yourself. You’re getting further along in your pregnancy, and things are going to change. You need to keep an eye on your body.”
“Oh, by the way, if I’m not mistaken, tomorrow is your checkup day. Make sure you go on time, or else when Marcus asks, I won’t know how to explain
it.”
Sophie sighed softly. “Okay, I got it. I’ll hang up now.”
After hanging up the phone, Sophie’s unease only grew.
Unable to shake the feeling, she called Chris, Marcus’s secretary.
The phone rang for a long time with no answer. Just as Sophie was about to hang up, Chris’s voice suddenly came through.
“Miss Chandler, do you need anything urgent?”
“No, no urgent matter.”
Sophie gripped the phone tightly, almost like it was her lifeline. “Where’s Marcus? Is he okay?”
“Miss Chandler, Mr. Morgan…”
Before Chris could finish his sentence, a commotion erupted on the other side.
Amidst the noise, the sounds of things being thrown came through.
Sophie’s brow furrowed instantly. “Chris, what’s going on over there? Are people fighting?”
Before she could finish her sentence, the call was abruptly cut off.
Sophie felt as if her heart had been hollowed out. The sounds kept echoing in her mind, and she tried to make sense of what was happening.
Had Marcus gotten into a fight with someone?
Chris’s urgent tone–could it be because Marcus was losing ground in this power struggle?
The more Sophie thought about it, the more uneasy she became. She rushed downstairs and had the driver take her to Sherry’s house.
Sherry, who had never liked Nina, had been living alone ever since. She hadn’t moved back to her family’s home.
When the doorbell rang, Sherry was still playing a game. She quickly ran to the door while controlling the keyboard.
“Who’s there?”
