Chapter 227
As Marcus explained, he gently held Sophie’s hand.
A red mark had appeared on her fair wrist, which was particularly noticeable.
Marcus, looking like a child who had made a mistake, spoke with guilt and tenderness.
“Does it hurt?”
“It doesn’t hurt.”
Sophie smiled faintly and withdrew her hand.
“Alright, you continue resting. I’ll go back to sleep, staying up late is not good.”
With those words, Sophie turned and went back to her room.
Marcus was about to chase after her, but then he stopped, realizing that Sophie truly needed rest.
Once back in her room, Sophie took a deep breath to calm the racing of her heart.
She still couldn’t believe that Marcus would hurt this child. She suspected that the chat history was fabricated by Helen, so she decided to secretly take Marcus‘ phone to see if such a conversation really existed.
But she failed. She underestimated Marcus‘ vigilance.
With no other choice, Sophie dialed Sherry’s number.
“Where have you been, Sophie? Do you know I’ve been worried sick about you?”
Sherry’s voice was full of urgency.
She had gone to Sophie’s family to look for her but found out that Sophie had left.
Sophie’s family didn’t know about the child, so they truly believed Sophie had gone out for fun..
But Sherry knew it wasn’t that simple!
She was worried that Sophie might be in a fragile state of mind, so she had been trying to reach her, but Sophie’s phone had been going
unanswered.
“I’m with Marcus now, don’t worry, I’m fine.”
Sophie paused before continuing, “Can you help me with something?”
“Of course, what is it?”
“Help me check a chat history.”
Sophie briefly explained what had happened that day, and after hearing it, Sherry fell into silence for a long while.
“Send me your location and also send the Wi–Fi name and password for your area.‘

Chapter 227
“Sophie, someone like Marcus, with his level of security on electronics, it’s not easy to hack into. But I’ll try my best. However, don’t expect too
much.”
Sophie sighed softly, “It’s fine, just do your best. I just want to know the truth.”
She knew how difficult this task was, which is why she had initially tried to steal Marcus‘ phone.
But now that path was blocked, so she had to put her hopes in Sherry’s hands.
Half an hour later, Sherry called back.
“Sophie, I’ll book the earliest flight right now and come to get you!”
Sherry’s voice was full of fury, and Sophie could feel it through the phone.
Sophie smiled bitterly, “So, you successfully hacked into Marcus‘ phone? Does that mean the chat history really exists?”
If not, Sherry wouldn’t be so angry.
“Just like you said, it was Marcus who instructed Helen to do this.”
“I honestly thought he brought Helen in to cook for you because you might not be used to the food. But now it seems, he just wanted to lower your guard.”
“Marcus really is heartless. Even if he’s afraid this child might harm your body, he should’ve at least discussed it with you before making a
decision!”
Sherry was furious, and the curses she threw at Marcus just kept coming.
Sophie felt a pang of bitterness in her heart. “I need to calm down for a moment.”
With that, Sophie ended the call.
She leaned back on the bed, tears glistening in her eyes.
A man who has been through the business world really is ruthless!
He could even so mercilessly abandon his own flesh and blood!
Sophie hadn’t slept at all that night, and the next morning, she went downstairs for breakfast as usual.
Since they were attending a dinner party in the evening, Marcus had already called in the tailor and stylist.
After breakfast, he stayed with Sophie to help her choose a dress.
Sophie kept a faint smile on her face, but it gave off a sense of distance, as if she was rejecting everyone around her.
Marcus knew Sophie was in a bad mood because of the child, but he didn’t ask her why. Instead, he kept trying to comfort her, hoping she could forget her troubles and cheer up.
After picking out the dress, it was already noon. Sophie ate a little and went back to her room to rest.
In the afternoon, the stylist and makeup artist returned to the villa to begin styling Sophie according to the plans made earlier that morning.
At 7 p.m., the makeup artist finally stopped working.
She looked at Sophie in the mirror and couldn’t help but exclaim,

“Sophie, you’re truly beautiful. Your face is the most beautiful I’ve ever painted.”
“Thank you for the compliment.”
Sophie responded lacklusterly, then walked out, holding the hem of her dress.
At the bottom of the staircase, Marcus was standing there in a black tailcoat.
