Once the entire Shaw family had left. William Shaw finally lifted his head in despair.
With eyes full of desperate pleading, he looked at Nancy Morris, pressing his palms together.
“For the sake of the respect we once shared as husband and wife, could you spare me this time?”
Respect? Ha! Saying such words without fearing thunder striking from the heavens.
Nancy let out a cold laugh, rose to her feet, one hand pulling Sherry close while the other slid into her pocket.
“Miss a single penny, and I’ll see you in court.”
Her words hung in the empty conference room as she turned to leave.
But just then, William suddenly stood up.
“Nancy, must you really go this far?”
His voice echoed through the hollow room, carrying an eerie edge.
Nancy slowly turned her head, meeting the cold glint in his eyes. A faint smile curled on her lips. Yes, that’s it. You finally can’t hold it in
anymore.
“Who really went too far first? Wasn’t it the Shaws who tried to cut the Morrises off completely? And now you dare bite back at me?” Nancy sniffed, shrugging with mock helplessness. “All I did was return the pain your family once put on me. Can’t handle it now?”
The darkness in William’s eyes only deepened. The once gentle head of the Shaw family looked like a beast baring its fangs, ready to devour.
Nancy raised her brows.
“Take your time. This is just the beginning.”
She clasped Sherry’s hand and walked away.
Outside the Shaw residence, Nancy’s steps slowed. She let go of Sherry’s hand, about to speak, when her daughter suddenly cut in.
“Mom.”
Sherry grabbed her mother’s hand just as it slipped away, stepping forward and wrapping Nancy tightly in her arms.
That long–lost embrace, that long–lost voice, pulled Nancy straight back to Sherry’s childhood-
when she was soft and clingy, always the first to run up and show her little achievements.
But after the divorce, Nancy had wandered everywhere, never daring to take her daughter with her. Later, the only news she got was that her daughter had been thrown out of the family.
She’d flown back in a frenzy, wrecked the Shaw household in rage, but William refused to reveal Sherry’s whereabouts.
In the end, it was Mr. and Mrs. Chandler who gave her a clue. Following the thread, she found her way to Falyon.
Nancy lowered her eyes, a tear falling onto Sherry’s wrist.
“I’m sorry, Sherry. These years… it’s all my fault. I wasted your time.”

Chapter 261
Her voice broke. She tried to hide her grief, but her daughter saw it all.
“I’m sorry…” she whispered again and again, her eyes swimming with sorrow, afraid to look at her daughter–afraid one glance would break her entirely.
Just then, Sherry threw her arms around her.
The familiar scent filled Nancy’s senses. She couldn’t hold back anymore. She clutched her daughter, buried her face in her neck, and sobbed.
“It’s all my fault. Blame me for everything. I’ll take all of it.”
Sherry gently rubbed her back, then smiled softly.
“Mom, you’ve been through so much too. You were just trying to build a better life for me.”
“If it weren’t for you, I’d never have had the chance to study my favorite cybersecurity field in Falyon. It’s you who made me who I am today.”
Their eyes met. Both of them laughed through tears, and just like that, the sadness lifted.
Hand in hand, they got into the car.
Nancy steadied her emotions.
“Sherry, there’s something I need to ask you. You can’t hide it from me.”
Sherry nodded.
“Your relationship with Sophie… is it still the same? Did she really marry Marcus?” Nancy’s expression grew serious.
Sherry didn’t notice. She simply nodded.
“Sophie and Marcus did end up together.”
At that, Nancy’s eyes darkened. She lowered her head, falling silent.
Sensing her mother’s mood shift, Sherry frowned.
“Mom, what’s wrong?”
Nancy hesitated, unwilling to speak.
“Mom, what really happened?” Sherry pressed.
Nancy’s face tightened. She turned to look out the window, knowing if she spoke, it would strain Sophie and Sherry’s bond.
But she couldn’t let it go either.
Finally, she said quietly, “Years ago, when I was in the Southern European market, I landed a huge order. If I had completed it, I would’ve been free financially. But that order was stolen by the newly founded Hills Group.”
The European market was small. A bit of asking around could uncover the truth.
That very order had catapulted Hills Group into dominance in Southern Europe, launching them skyward. Meanwhile, Nancy had been forced
into silence, only resurfacing years later to rebuild her career.
Marcus was daring. He had always tested boundaries.
But still…

Sherry frowned.
“Sherry. I can’t help but view the Hills Group with suspicion.” Nancy’s brows furrowed, and she turned her face away.
“If it weren’t for fellow Chinese who helped me back then. I’d have lost everything. I didn’t even dare contact you.” Her voice trembled at the
memory.
Two tears slipped down her cheeks. She let out a shaky breath.
“Sherry…”
Sherry gathered herself.
“Mom, I understand. But let me look into this from my own perspective. From what I know of Marcus and Sophie, I don’t believe Marcus would do such a thing. Please give me time to investigate.”
Nancy said nothing, only nodding. She had no right to interfere.
The car stopped in front of the Hills Tower. Sherry stepped out, turning to wave goodbye.
Nancy stared at the skyscraper, her heart a tangle of emotions. The thought of the past still twisted her gut painfully.
She waved to the driver to leave.
Meanwhile, Sherry, fresh from her triumph over the Shaws, carried herself like a storm–bold and unrestrained.
News of Nancy’s return quickly hit the trending lists. Inside and outside the industry, people buzzed with commentary-
“I’ve got connections in the elite circle. The Shaws are finished this time!”
“Of course they are. They tried to leech off the Morrises and bit off more than they could chew. That Nancy woman must be something else!”
Totally agree. Enough with these spineless freeloaders. Can’t wait to see a queen tear one apart!”
