Chapter 264
Celine Wallace sat upright at the bar, her face flushed pink from the wine, l’or once, she looked almost well behaved, even a little cute. Sophie couldn’t help but smile at the sight.
Moments later, Marcus returned after finishing his talk with StarTech Corporation. His cold eyes swept across Celine.
“What did she do to you?” He turned toward Sophie,
Without waiting for an answer, Marcus signaled the bodyguards.
“Throw her out.”
Celine’s eyes widened in panic. She clutched the bar with both hands.
“I’m innocent! I didn’t do anything–I even defended Sophie just now!”
Coming from her, the claim sounded unbelievable.
Marcus ignored her plea and gestured again.
“Sophie! Don’t repay kindness with spite!” Celine cried out desperately, but even her harsh words faltered halfway through. That sharp tongue of hers never seemed to work when she needed it most.
Sophie touched Marcus’s arm.
“She really didn’t do anything. Michelle came to make trouble, and she did stand up for me.”
Marcus finally relented, his frown easing,
“It’s late,” he said, pulling Sophie closer, his expression darkening. “There are things I need to tell you.”
Sensing the weight in his voice, Sophie nodded and followed him.
“Involving the Hills Group and Nancy… I need to be honest with you.”
Inside the car, Marcus’s tone was low as he recounted events from ten years ago.
Back then, the Hills Group was newly founded and desperate to make a name in the market. Marcus had set his sights on the promising Southern European market. But competition was brutal. Hills had seized the territory with questionable methods.
“I was focused on expanding new trade routes and didn’t watch them closely enough. By the time I realized their methods were crossing legal lines, it was too late.” Marcus’s brows knit tight.
The Morgan family couldn’t afford scandals, As the founder, Marcus had kept his name hidden, never officially tied to Hills.
The incident had left the company with serious damage to its reputation. Though Hills survived due to its strong foundation. Marcus had wanted to make amends–only to find Nancy Morris had vanished.
He had carried that guilt ever since. When he saw her livestream recently, he recognized her instantly. But with the Shaw family crisis unfolding, he couldn’t reach out.
Sophie let out a long sigh, glancing sideways at him.
“Then you need to explain everything to Sherry directly.”

Marcus nodded. He intended to. If possible, he wanted to apologize to Nancy face to face–though he doubted he’d ever get the chance.
His throat tightened with old regret. He rubbed his brow and exhaled heavily.
Sophie clasped his hand.
“It’s okay. Take it slow.”
The car stopped. They got out, hand in hand, though Marcus’s expression stayed troubled.
“You’re hiding something else,” Sophie said, stepping in front of him.
Her eyes missed nothing. Marcus gave a small nod.
“I believe Nancy came back this time to take revenge on the Hills Group.”
His tone was grave–preparing for the worst.
But Sophie only chuckled.
“So that’s why you rushed to sign Sherry into the company? You think having her there will stop her aunt from retaliating?” She laid his scheme
bare.
Marcus didn’t deny it, nodding openly.
Sophie smiled at his honesty.
“Nancy wouldn’t use such tactics. If she really came back for revenge, Sherry being in the company wouldn’t stop her.”
Marcus sighed.
“I’m serious.”
“So am I.” Sophie said, straightening, her smile fading.
Back home, she sank into the sofa while Marcus sat beside her, still brooding. She leaned against him.
“Why don’t we make a bet?”
“I bet Nancy won’t retaliate.”
Marcus’s face hardened. He squeezed her hand tightly.
“Sophie, I told you–this isn’t something to joke about.”
But Sophie sat upright, confident.
“I may not know Nancy well, but I do know Sherry.”
Marcus frowned. Could he really trust Sherry?
He couldn’t gamble on it. Nancy had built an empire in Europe and America–she was formidable. If she had already laid her plans in Riverland, Hills could be in danger.
The air grew heavy. Marcus’s frown deepened.

Chapter 264
Ring, ring, ring-
Sophie’s phone buzzed.
It was Sherry.
“Sophie, I tried calling Marcus but he didn’t pick up. Tell him I want to have dinner with both of you tomorrow. There are things we need to
discuss.”
Sophie put the call on speaker. Sherry’s voice filled the car.
Marcus’s eyes narrowed in suspicion, his gaze fixed on the phone.
Sophie gave him a look.
He nodded.
“Alright,” Sophie replied.
“I’ll send the time and place.” Sherry hung up.
Marcus sat stiffly, dread gnawing at him. For the first time in years, fear coiled in his chest. Ever since the name Viola appeared, unease had
haunted him.
Sophie slipped her arms around his.
“Don’t worry. I’ll go with you.”
Her gentle voice pulled him out of his spiral. He smiled faintly, then crushed her into his embrace, burying his face in her neck.
“Wife…” he murmured again and again, like he was confirming it with each breath.
“I’m here,” Sophie whispered back.
“You’re the love of my life,” Marcus said firmly. “No one will ever take your place.”
