Chapter 273
“Mr. Morgan, you’re being too polite. Did that little brat cause trouble in your company? If he did, just discipline him. No need to call me specifically!”
On the other end of the line, an aged, gravelly voice filled the room. Mr. Cole Sr. exhaled a cloud of cigar smoke.
“Your grandson seems to be very interested in my wife,” Marcus said bluntly.
There was a sharp cough, and even the cigar slipped from Mr. Cole’s fingers. His butler quickly handed him tea to steady his breath before he picked the phone back up.
“Mr. Cole, I respect your character. But tell me–Nathan’s behavior, is that truly his own, or someone else’s orders?”
Mr. Cole Sr. shot to his feet, voice stern.
“Mr. Morgan, are you questioning me?”
Marcus didn’t deny it. His doubts had never been hidden.
On the surveillance screen in front of him, Nathan sat at his desk like nothing was wrong, smiling easily at everyone around him.
“You’ve met Nathan,” Mr. Cole said at last, his tone calmer. “The boy is clever, but he’s slippery. At my age, I can’t control him anymore–that’s why I sent him to you. We’ve worked together many times, Marcus, you know me. I have no use for dirty tricks like corporate espionage.”
Direct men had no need for circles. Mr. Cole’s sincerity was plain.
“If you have any doubts, send Nathan back right away. I won’t object.”
Marcus lowered his gaze in thought. Just then, Chris, his secretary, brought over a file. Inside was all the information on Viola Group.
And there it was–Nathan’s name.
Marcus’s chest tightened. Maybe Nathan wasn’t here representing the Cole family at all. Maybe he was tied to Viola.
“Mm,” Marcus answered simply, then hung up.
“Mr. Morgan, here’s the Viola Group file,” Chris reported. “But it’s strange–Nathan’s a jewelry designer, yet his name turns up in a cosmetics company. The timing is… too convenient.”
Marcus’s knuckles whitened. Veins rose like ridges along his hands. He didn’t need to say a word–Chris understood. Viola Group was about to
face trouble.
“Rest assured, sir. Within six months, Viola Group won’t be able to stir up any waves.” Chris bowed and left with the file.
But the name Viola clung to Marcus like a curse, refusing to fade. He rubbed at his temples, tension pounding behind his eyes.
Then, a sudden call.
“Marcus! Something’s happened–bring Sophie here right away!” Zack’s voice came sharp and urgent.
Marcus’s blood ran cold. Zack? Did something happen to the baby?
He didn’t hesitate, hauling Sophie with him as they rushed out.

Chapter 273
Sophie clutched her belly, fear rising as she noticed how much larger she looked than other womers at five months. “Marcos could son really be wrong with the baby?”
He squeezed her hand tight, forcing a smile to calm her.
“Don’t worry. Our child has always been strong.”
But he prayed silently: Please, don’t let anything happen.
They made it to Zack’s clinic in ten minutes flat. Sophie’s legs were trembling, tears already filling her eyes. She dung to Marent’s arm just to stand.
“What happened? What’s wrong with the baby?”
Zack glanced at the terrified couple, then handed them the ultrasound results with a wide grin.
“Congratulations!”
The word froze them both.
Together, they looked down at the paper.
Zack’s voice was bright with excitement:
“Sophie, you’re carrying twins!”
The world went silent.
Sophie’s ears rang, a tear sliding down her cheek and splashing onto the report. Marcus stood frozen, his hands–still shaking from tension–trembled harder now from shock.
“What are you waiting for? You should be celebrating!” Zack cheered, even firing a party popper over his desk.
Confetti rained down as Sophie looked up, straight into Marcus’s tear–filled eyes. She collapsed into his arms, her sobs muffled against his chest.
Two little heartbeats inside her, pounding against his. Marcus’s chest felt like it might burst.
No wonder. No wonder her belly was bigger. No wonder she was so exhausted. Two little ones…
Zack was still clapping and bouncing around, practically a monkey in a lab coat.
Marcus’s glare cut him down instantly. His voice was cold.
“Why didn’t you say anything sooner?”
Sophie pressed a hand to her chest, still shaken.
“You really scared me… I thought something was wrong.”
Zack scratched his head, sheepish.
“My bad, I got carried away. I promise–no more mistakes this time!”
Outside, Sophie paused. The joy was overwhelming, but suddenly, tears welled again.
Marcus rushed to her side, voice trembling.
“What’s wrong? Are you in pain?”
