**Through Silent Meadows We Trace Stories Left Behind Yesterday by Asa Rowan Flint**
**Chapter 41**
Marcus had gone above and beyond for her sake, driven by the impending arrival of their child. Yet, despite his unwavering support, she found herself repeatedly breaking her promise, caught in the web of her feelings for Liam. Just moments ago, Liam had brazenly pulled her into a secluded room, leaving Marcus outside, fuming with rage. It was no surprise that Marcus was seething.
“I swear to you,” Sophie insisted, locking her gaze with his, her voice imbued with sincerity. “As soon as I reclaim what is rightfully mine, I will sever all ties with Liam. I mean it, for good this time.”
Marcus’s expression darkened, a flicker of hurt flashing across his features. His hand rested momentarily on her lower belly, a gesture both tender and possessive, before he slowly withdrew it, creating a palpable distance between them.
“Whatever it is you seek to reclaim, I will assist you,” he declared, stepping back as if to emphasize the boundary he was setting. “I can no longer stand by and watch you two continue this charade.”
Sophie felt a tremor in her heart.
Was he truly willing to help her?
“Even if… even if what I desire is currently in the possession of the Morgan Group, you would still support me in retrieving it?” she asked, her eyes narrowing slightly as she gauged his reaction, a flicker of doubt crossing her mind.
“If it belongs to the Morgan Group, then you should be consulting with me, not Liam. What purpose does it serve to involve him?” Marcus adjusted the cuffs of his shirt with a decisive flick, his presence radiating authority and determination.
Sophie inhaled deeply, gathering her courage as she stepped closer. “Actually, I’m—”
Knock, knock, knock!
“Mr. Morgan, the summit is about to begin!”
Chris’s voice echoed from the other side of the door, interrupting her just as she was on the brink of revealing everything. She swallowed her words, the tension in the room thickening.
“Understood,” Marcus replied curtly, donning his suit jacket with practiced ease. He moved toward the door, his demeanor shifting back to that of a composed professional. “We will continue this conversation when I return.”
