**TITLE: Through Silent Meadows We Trace Stories Left Behind**

Asa Rowan Flint

In the dim light of the corridor, shadows danced against the walls, whispering secrets of the past. Ryan stood there, his heart racing, as he watched a figure emerge from the depths of the hallway. The person appeared to be swathed in a cocoon of blankets, their form almost ethereal. The white sheets draped over them seemed to glow faintly, contrasting with the muted tones of the surroundings.

“Did you dig deep?” Ryan ventured, his voice a mix of curiosity and concern. He casually picked up an item that lay forgotten on the floor, approaching with a sense of urgency. His eyes flicked towards the person, trying to discern their identity.

Suddenly, the figure turned, their hands instinctively rising to shield their face, which was marred by what looked like a severe allergic reaction. “That fang in your hand isn’t mine. You’ve got the wrong person!” they exclaimed, their voice trembling with a mix of embarrassment and distress.

Ryan’s brow furrowed in confusion, a wave of sympathy washing over him. “I’m sorry… your face… do you need help getting to a hospital?” His concern was genuine, but the sight before him was almost unrecognizable. The person’s skin was a furious red, swollen and dotted with clusters of small, angry bumps, resembling a toad more than a human.

Recognizing their features was a challenge; the swelling obscured any clear indication of their gender. “No, no need. Thank you,” they replied hastily, pulling the blanket tighter around themselves as if it could shield them from the world.

As the elevator doors slid closed, Ryan stood frozen for a moment, his gaze lingering. The voice echoed in his mind, striking a chord of familiarity that he couldn’t quite place.

Inside the elevator, Lena peeled away the blanket, her expression shifting from vulnerability to irritation. Just moments ago, they had been lost in a moment of intimacy when the secretary had interrupted, announcing that Sophie was searching for Liam.

Lena knew Sophie well; she was not one to be easily deceived. In a moment of desperation, Liam had concocted a plan, suggesting that Sophie inflict an allergic reaction upon herself as a means of escape. The mere thought of Sophie ruining her carefully laid plans ignited a fire of resentment within Lena.

Meanwhile, in the opulent VIP suite, Sophie was oblivious to the turmoil brewing just outside. As she received Ryan’s message, a sense of dread settled in her stomach. “So, it was indeed a woman who came out, but one who happened to have an allergic reaction on her face,” she thought, her fingers curling tightly around her phone. “Liam really has thought of everything.”

Once the meeting concluded, Liam approached Sophie, his demeanor relaxed. “The meeting’s over. I’ll take you back to the Chandler house now,” he announced, a hint of relief in his voice.

“Alright,” Sophie replied, masking her true feelings behind a facade of compliance. She had to maintain the illusion she had constructed, or Liam would certainly grow suspicious.

As they walked side by side, Sophie deliberately edged closer to Liam, seeking comfort in his presence. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders, a warm smile spreading across his face. “Sophie, you haven’t been willing to come close to me on your own for so long. I’m genuinely happy that you’re doing it now.”

Caught off guard, Sophie stumbled into Liam’s embrace, her heart racing. She wanted to pull away, but then she noticed a strand of hair resting on his shoulder. With delicate fingers, she picked it up, waving it teasingly in front of him. “This hair should belong to a woman,” she remarked casually. “Just now, I saw that the only woman attending the meeting was your secretary, but her hair is black.”

Liam’s expression shifted, his pupils narrowing as he processed her words. “If this hair isn’t hers, then whose is it?” he asked, a flicker of tension in his voice.

With a swift motion, he snatched the hair from her hand and discarded it on the ground. “Sophie, you didn’t come here today just to check up on me, did you?”

“Do you suspect I would cheat?” Sophie shot back, meeting his gaze with a challenging look. “Hard to say. Didn’t you also suspect I would cheat before?”

Liam’s heart raced, caught off guard by her boldness. He took her hand, placing it over his chest, his voice earnest. “Sophie, heaven and earth can witness my feelings for you. I’d be heartbroken if you suspected me like this!”
