**Through Silent Meadows We Trace Stories Left Behind**
Her large, whale-like body tensed up, a surge of anxiety coursing through her. Just as she was about to silence her phone, a powerful hand seized her wrist, pinning it against the door.
Marcus had caught her, his grip firm yet oddly intimate, as if he was claiming her in that moment.
His fingers, well-defined and deceptively gentle, slipped into the pocket of Sophie’s pants, searching for her phone. The sensation was electric, the tips of his fingers brushing against her hip in a way that felt both invasive and thrilling.
Once, twice… the caress lingered longer than it should have, igniting a fire within her that she struggled to suppress.
Finally, Sophie had reached her limit. “Marcus, will you ever stop?” she exclaimed, her voice a mix of irritation and something more complicated—perhaps even desire.
A wicked smile danced across Marcus’s lips as he deftly hooked the phone out with the tip of his finger.
He didn’t bother to silence it; instead, he hovered his pale finger over the answer button. “Tell me your plan, or else…” His voice was low, almost a growl, sending shivers down her spine.
As he pressed down, Sophie gasped in alarm, “I’ll tell you, I’ll tell you everything!”
His finger remained firmly planted on the button, a silent command that demanded her compliance.
“Good, speak.”
Sophie felt the weight of the moment pressing down on her. She had been cornered, left with no choice but to divulge her secrets.
If Liam discovered that the man with her wasn’t Ryan but Marcus, all her careful scheming would crumble to dust!
Just as she was about to spill her thoughts, Liam’s voice rang out from outside.
“I’m the room owner’s fiancé. Give me the key card.”
Beep…
The sound of the room lock being swiped open sent a jolt of panic through Sophie. She could feel someone pushing the door behind her, urgency radiating from it.
“I’ll come find you tonight. Leave quickly!” Marcus hissed, his voice low and urgent as he slipped her phone back into her pocket.
“Don’t lie to me again, Sophie.”
In a split second, as the door swung open, Marcus leaped out of the window, his movements fluid and practiced.
When Liam entered, he caught a fleeting glimpse of a dark shadow darting away, his brow furrowing in confusion.
“Sophie, that black shadow just now was…”
“What black shadow?” Sophie stumbled back, trying to regain her composure. “Why did you suddenly open the door from outside? You almost hit me!”
Liam’s expression was a mixture of suspicion and concern.
“Sophie, why does your room smell like men’s cologne? Were you really alone in here just now?”
Sophie’s eyes flickered away, betraying her inner turmoil, as she casually strolled toward the window. “Of course I was alone. Who else would be here?”
But Liam’s sharp gaze caught sight of something glinting on the windowsill—suit cufflinks.
He picked them up, curiosity piqued, but before he could examine them, Sophie snatched them out of his hands.
“Don’t look at those. Ryan probably dropped them when he came to ask me out earlier. I’ll return them to him when I see him,” she said, her voice steady but her heart racing.
“So these cufflinks are Ryan’s?”
The realization hit Liam hard. The fleeting figure at the window had to be Ryan!
Sophie was brazen, carrying on an affair in broad daylight, completely disregarding him as her fiancé!
“Did you come to see me for something specific?”
Sophie, sensing the tension in the room, quickly shifted the conversation.
“I just wanted to let you know that after the Starlight Cup incident, Lena has been staying home and refusing to come out. When my mother heard I was coming to the resort, she sent Lena here too.”
“She said to take Lena out to relax.” Liam turned to her, his expression softening. “Sophie, you wouldn’t mind, would you?”
“She’s your sister. What would I mind?”
