I Fell for the Man Who Ruined Me, Then He Forgot He Ever Loved Me Back novel Chapter 102

"Do you literally not own a car in any other color?"

Nate smirked. "I do. Would you prefer pink, green, or purple?"

"Do you not have black, white, or gray?"

"No way. Aren't those colors exclusively for old men?"

Sienna shut her mouth.

Fine. She wasn't an old woman. She was an old man.

Over by the company elevators, Silas Lester spotted Sienna from a distance. Remembering how Elara Vance had been giving him the cold shoulder over text lately, he figured he could score some points by sweet-talking her best friend.

He took a few long strides before stopping dead in his tracks.

To his utter shock, he watched Sienna slide into Nate's car.

He stood completely paralyzed for ten seconds.

His shock slowly melted into gleeful amusement.

Damn, Jorrod Vaughn was finally getting a taste of his own medicine!

The great, untouchable Jorrod Vaughn was about to get dumped!

The bar wasn't exactly close to the office, but it was pleasantly close to Sienna's apartment.

That was the main reason she had agreed to come.

It was a new spot that had been running heavy online promotions for a month. The interior was styled exactly to modern aesthetics, drawing in a massive crowd of local professionals looking to blow off steam.

Sienna loved the vibe. Glancing around, she made a mental note to drag Elara here next time.

"You like to drink, Sienna?" Nate popped open a bottle, poured a half-glass, and slid it over to her.

Sienna had come here for this exact purpose, so she didn't refuse.

She nodded, lifting the glass to take a sip. "You could say that. It takes the edge off."

"Well, next time you want a drink, call me. I'm a lightweight, but I need the practice."

Sienna shot him a look. "Kids shouldn't drink too much."

Nate scoffed, a teasing smile playing on his lips. "I'm practically twenty. You're only in your twenties yourself, right? You're barely older than me, but you sound like my grandmother."

"Excuse me?" Sienna blinked, taken aback. This was nothing like the terror Mindy had described.

"I've got a few years on you, which means you should be treating me with respect. That 'grandmother' tone is the sound of hard-earned life experience."

Nate didn't argue. He just lowered his eyes and chuckled softly.

"Alright then. Let's drink to my older, wiser friend." Nate poured himself a glass, naturally dipping the rim of his glass to tap gently against the side of hers in a respectful toast.

To her surprise, if she ignored the age gap, she found the kid surprisingly easy to talk to.

He didn't get an answer right away. Instead, he heard the woman's voice drift away from the receiver as she replied to the younger man.

"No."

He knew that was her answer to the boyfriend question.

His Adam's apple bobbed. Forcing down the violent surge of emotion clawing at his throat, he said, "It's late. Don't drink too much. Come home soon."

Sienna gave a brief hum of agreement.

Hanging up, she saw Nate smiling at her, his eyes crinkling in amusement. "Even with all that hard-earned life experience, your boyfriend still checks up on you."

Sienna didn't even know where to begin explaining her relationship with Jorrod.

Besides, she wasn't close enough with Nate to spill her secrets.

She gave a vague, non-committal response. "What can I say? Someone with even more life experience than me is telling me to get home."

At her words, the boy's signature easy smile faded just a fraction.

"Yeah. Total dad energy. Typical older guy behavior."

Sienna forced a dry laugh. "Dad energy." "Older guy behavior." She needed to remember those lines. She should have hurled those exact insults at the arrogant Jorrod Vaughn back in the day.

"Sorry about the wait. Here's your platter, and the extra appetizer we accidentally made is on the house," a waiter apologized profusely, carefully setting the plates down between them.
