Sienna didn't drag the conversation out any longer.
Feeling the alcohol go to her head, she announced she was heading home.
Nate didn't try to stop her. It was chilly outside, and when Sienna sneezed twice, Nate immediately handed her his jacket and offered to drive her back.
Sienna hated being an inconvenience. She originally planned to call a cab, but considering how late it was and how much she had drank, Nate stubbornly refused and insisted on driving her.
Unable to win the argument, and admitting he had a point, she gave in. After all, her apartment wasn't far from the bar.
Nate escorted her all the way up to her floor.
Standing at the top of the stairs, Sienna turned around, drawing the line.
"Alright, this is far enough."
"Not gonna invite me in to meet the boyfriend?" Nate leaned against the wooden banister, raising an eyebrow. It was hard to tell if he was serious or just making a joke.
"He's insanely jealous. Seeing you will just set him off again."
Nate nodded. "Alright then. See you tomorrow."
"Yeah, see you tomorrow."
Sienna stood at the door, glancing down at her phone.
Ten-thirty.
Usually, Jorrod would be fast asleep by now.
She carefully unlocked the door. The moment it swung open, she walked straight into the man who had stayed up waiting for her.
Jorrod wasn't wearing his pajamas. He was fully dressed in a casual jacket zipped all the way up to his collar, wearing a face mask, and holding a battered cardboard box. He looked like he was on his way out.
"What, you're not asleep yet?" Sienna lowered her gaze to the box in his hand.
Jorrod bent down and temporarily placed the box by the door.
He straightened his tall frame, looking down at the woman in front of him. He didn't answer. His expression remained unreadable, but his eyes lingered on the unfamiliar jacket draped over her shoulders for a few seconds too long.
The light blue men's sweater was soft and oversized, swallowing her frame. It carried a fresh, grassy scent mixed with a hint of alcohol—pleasant, but entirely foreign.
The pale blue contrasted beautifully with her luminous skin, making her look radiant.
But reflected in the man's dark, predatory gaze...
It was an absolute eyesore.
His smile slowly faded as he narrowed his eyes.
So it wasn't just an excuse.
But for some reason...
That guy looked awfully familiar.

Sienna thanked her lucky stars Jorrod had been wearing a mask.
Otherwise, Nate definitely would have recognized him.
"From now on, we need to shut the door before we talk." Sienna hurried into the kitchen, poured herself a glass of warm water, and drank it down to soothe her stomach.
When she stepped back out, Jorrod was still sitting on the couch. He had only taken off his jacket, his elbows resting heavily on his knees, completely silent.
She stopped in her tracks. "By the way, did you recognize that guy just now?"
"His name is Nathaniel Yale. He's a college kid. I heard his dad is Alistair Yale, an old friend of your family. Apparently, Alistair was your professor in college, so you two are pretty close."
Jorrod desperately searched his mind, finding nothing.
