Without bothering to cap the tube, she squeezed a little more onto her fingertip and pulled the man's hand toward her.
Her lip had already formed a scab.
But his fingers were a fresh wound, still seeping tiny beads of blood. When the sudden cold of the ointment hit the broken skin, Jorrod instinctively flinched. He instantly caught himself, pushing his hand slightly forward, allowing the woman to gently rub the medicine over his knuckles.
"Don't get this wet for the next few days. When I'm not home, you have to apply it yourself, got it?"
Jorrod watched the woman looking down, entirely focused on treating his hand. Under the hallway light, the crown of her hair glowed with a soft golden halo. She looked so incredibly gentle that his own heart completely melted.
Suddenly, his hand didn't hurt at all.
He nodded. "You need to..."
"My mouth will heal in no time, don't worry about me. Worry about yourself. I swear you do this just to piss me off. Look at this perfectly good hand, now it looks like it was dragged across a butcher's block..."
Sienna mumbled on, every word a scolding, yet dripping with a quiet, fierce affection that even she hadn't realized was there.
Watching her soft pink lips move as she scolded him, a slow smile curved the corners of Jorrod's mouth. "Whatever you say."

For the past few days, Sienna had been grabbing breakfast and lunch at the company cafeteria, and usually skipping dinner entirely.
After patching up Jorrod's hand, she sat in her bedroom chatting with Elara Vance for a while. Once Elara had to leave for dinner, Sienna finally got up to take a shower.
The gray patterned tiles of the bathroom floor were immaculately clean and shining.
On the rack by the wall hung a pristine white cleaning rag, damp but not dripping, looking as if someone had just wrung it out.
Sienna stared at it for a few seconds.
She undressed and stepped into the shower.
Elara, true to form, couldn't stop talking. Even while chewing her dinner, she kept firing off text messages to Sienna.
[And then what? Liam Carter hasn't bothered you since?]
[Liam picked the wrong career. The guy is an absolute actor. He's faking it hard.]
[Watch your back. I don't think he's given up on you. He might even show up at your apartment.]
Sienna's phone wouldn't stop pinging.
"Do you need me... to come in?"
"No!" Sienna rejected the idea instantly. She looked down at herself, naked and shivering, and tried to stand again. Jorrod's words echoed in her ears. Whether it was her lack of clothing or the steamy heat of the bathroom, a furious blush crept across her cheeks.
But worse than the humiliation of falling in the shower was the reality of her situation.
Her ankle was sprained.
The pain was excruciating. Just attempting to stand brought a cold sweat to her forehead.
She barely managed to stay upright for a few seconds before the dizziness hit—a nasty side effect of consistently skipping dinner, compounded by the hot steam. She collapsed right back down, her right leg sprawled awkwardly across the tiles.
Sienna took a deep breath, all her previous bravado completely gone.
"Are you... still out there?"
"Yes. Do you want me to come in?" Jorrod answered immediately, his voice tight with worry, pressing close to the wooden door, tracking every sound inside.
Sienna's face burned hot, the pink flush spreading all the way down her pale neck and collarbones.
"I sprained my ankle. Can you... carry me out?"
