Jorrod swallowed his burning anger, stubbornly refusing to speak or cooperate.
Elara exchanged a look with her friend before turning back with a helpless sigh. "Mr. Vaughn, this is for your own good. Since you refuse to go to the hospital, we have to do this here. I promise it will be quick. Could you just work with me?"
He remained completely unresponsive.
From Elara's vantage point, the man's neck strained with sharp, masculine lines, and his jawline was striking. On a normal day, she would have admired his sheer attractiveness, but right now, she had no time for that. His stubborn profile made it clear he was determined to play dead to the bitter end.
Elara had no choice but to continue coaxing him, sentence by sentence.
Nearby, Sienna stood with her arms crossed.
She had been watching and listening for a while.
She didn't possess an ounce of her friend's patience.
Elara had a doctor's compassion, seeing only a prideful patient. But in Sienna's eyes, this was just a cold, selfish jerk rushing headlong toward his own grave.
Especially since Elara was begging him, and he still wouldn't budge.
Protective of her friend, Sienna was naturally annoyed.
Sienna let out a dry laugh and finally spoke up. "Mr. Vaughn, I understand your precious body doesn't want to be touched, but I need to make sure you're not going to croak. If you drop dead in my apartment tomorrow morning, all the property values in this building are going to tank because of your royal demise."
"You might be rich, but you could at least spare a thought for us regular folks."
"Besides, out of consideration for my neighbors, I'd have to hire a priest to read your eulogy."
"With a temper as stubborn as yours, the priest would have a hard time sending you off. He might even charge me extra, and who would I complain to then?"
It worked. Jorrod turned his head.
His expression was dangerously dark, his eyes glaring at her as if forged in fire.
A single sneeze from him could fluctuate the stock market enough to buy several of her crappy little apartments.
He was in this miserable state, and all this stupid woman could think about was the negligible property value of her cheap home.
A priest for his eulogy?
Was her head filled with garbage?
