The moment the words hung in the air, Jorrod froze.
He didn't speak. He lifted his head, his dark eyes staring intensely right into hers. The heat in his gaze was still searing, but a sliver of cool rationality had returned.
Sienna shrank under his gaze, terribly embarrassed.
After kissing for so long, and with the wide neckline of her nightgown being dragged back and forth, her clothes were a complete mess.
From his angle, even if she wasn't completely exposed, it wasn't hiding much either.
Not to mention, what she had just said sounded like a blatant invitation.
It seemed entirely too forward.
She covered her face. "Pretend I didn't say that."
Jorrod gently pried her hands away, looking into her evasive eyes and noting her cheeks, which were flushed crimson with shyness. "Are we... back together?"
"Mhm." Sienna turned her head, muttering quietly, "We hadn't even confirmed we were back together and you kissed me that fiercely?"
"It's different," he said. "I was terrified you'd change your mind in the morning."
When two people threw caution to the wind and lived purely in the heat of the moment, the one who always ended up regretting it was the one who suffered. If he could hold back, he would.
The man's voice was extremely soft, carrying an inexplicable trace of resentment.
Hearing it, Sienna felt a sharp ache in her chest. An overwhelming sadness washed over her.
She turned her head back, reached up, and stroked his thick, dark hair, comforting the massive, heartbroken puppy. "I won't change my mind. This time, as long as you don't bring up breaking up, I will never take it back."
"I certainly won't," Jorrod frowned, answering immediately. "I will never break up with you."
"Sienna, I'm going to marry you."
Looking at the absolute conviction on the man's face, Sienna actually felt a little bashful.
What was this?
They had literally just gotten back together and he was already talking about marriage.
She hummed playfully, "Let's see you get your memory back first."
For some reason, the moment the words left her mouth, her mind involuntarily flashed back to the very first time they met.
The way the man had looked at her was completely unrecognizable.
Through those pristine lenses, his gaze had been as cold as frost, slicing into her face without a shred of mercy.
Cold, and painful.
She suddenly realized that her initial, desperate hope for him to regain his memory hadn't crossed her mind in a very long time.
A faint, painful wave of sorrow rippled through her heart.
It felt suffocating, making her chest tight and drawing breath difficult.
"Maybe, once you remember everything, you won't even want me anymore."
Sienna's voice was thick with insecurity. As soon as she finished speaking, her face was gently cupped by his hands, forcing her to look up at his striking features.
