Jorrod lowered his eyes slightly.
His thick, long lashes concealed the complicated flicker of emotion in his gaze.
After a moment, his expression returned to a neutral calm as he gave a soft hum of acknowledgment.

Sienna only took one week off.
Since Silas was heading to the office, she hitched a ride in his car so they could commute together.
Mindy Monroe gave her a massive bear hug the second they reunited.
"I missed you so much, Sienna!"
After letting go, she immediately looked down at her friend's ankle. "How's the foot? Does it still hurt?"
Sienna waved it off. "It stopped hurting ages ago. The doctor just wanted me to rest for a week to be safe."
"Oh, hey, Sienna's back."
Sienna turned toward the voice and saw a coworker she wasn't particularly close with.
The woman was holding a milk tea and smiling cheerfully. "This one's for you today."
Sienna stared blankly.
Nearby, Rena Young just happened to be walking past and gave her a very deliberate, judging glare.
Sienna was even more confused.
Once the coworker walked away, Mindy explained. "They were incredibly bored and insisted on making a bet about whether your boyfriend was actually a sugar daddy."
"Well, Rena lost big time. She had to buy milk tea for their entire team for a month."
"Tsk, and she got it from that upscale cafe downtown, too. Dropped some serious cash. No wonder she's so pissed."
Sienna found the entire situation bizarre.
She handed the iced milk tea over to Mindy.
"You take it. I don't drink cold stuff."
Mindy happily accepted. "Don't mind if I do."

That was Sienna's honest assessment.
Nathaniel naturally stepped up next to Sienna and greeted her first.
He glanced down at her foot, then looked up. "How are you getting back? Should I give you a ride?"
Sienna frantically waved her hands, signaling she was fine. "My ride's already here."
Nathaniel smiled. "A ride? How come Mr. Carter isn't picking you up? Is he too busy with work?"
Sienna almost forgot who 'Mr. Carter' even was.
She laughed awkwardly, completely dodging the question, and as soon as the elevator doors chimed open, she practically bolted, leaving Nathaniel behind.
Although the elevator was crowded, it wasn't loud.
Nathaniel’s clear, crisp voice had carried easily. Toward the back, Liam Carter had heard every single word.
When Liam stepped out of the elevator, he stared in the direction Sienna had gone for a long time before pulling out his phone and sending a message to Rena.
Liam: [I need to ask you about something.]
