Sienna froze. "Huh?"
George's gaze grew even sharper as he leaned in closer. "And you dressed up."
Sienna forced a laugh and lightly swatted her dad's arm. "It's the weekend! Looking nice is totally normal, Dad."
George might not understand other people.
But parents know their daughter best, and he knew her far too well.
Given his daughter's usual habits, she should be lazily rotting in bed right now. It was usually a nightmare just to wake her up, let alone expect her to drag herself out of bed at the crack of dawn to put on a full face of beautiful makeup.
"Alright, alright. Sienna put on some makeup and you're treating it like a conspiracy," Lillian walked over, reminding her husband. "Didn't you say you came over specifically to cook a meal for our daughter? Get to the kitchen."
Sienna couldn't possibly let Jorrod hide in the bedroom for that long, so she quickly waved her hands to refuse the offer.
However, a wife's command was absolute. George eagerly marched into the kitchen, entirely ignoring his daughter's frantic protests, and got straight to work.
With George busy in the kitchen, the family of three settled into a rhythm.
Lillian sat on the sofa, keeping her daughter company.
Her mother remained as gentle as ever, speaking in soft, unhurried tones as she recounted stories of what had been happening back home.
Sienna looked like she was listening to a ghost story.
She bit her lip, aggressively picking at her fingernails, entirely zoned out. At the slightest noise, her neck would snap toward the bedroom door.
After this happened a few times, Lillian curiously followed her gaze toward the hallway. "What's wrong? Why do you keep staring over there?"
Sienna jolted back to reality. "...Nothing."
After this ordeal, she was definitively certain of one thing: with her anxious personality, she would make a terrible undercover agent.
Every single thought was broadcasted clearly across her face.
Her mother was still chatting away when George suddenly yelled out asking where the soy sauce was. Sienna seized the opportunity, quickly standing up to escape the living room.
George was prepping a few side dishes.
He opened the fridge and let out a whistle. "Not bad, Sienna. Your fridge is fully stocked! Have you actually been cooking lately?"
Sienna felt incredibly guilty.
