By noon, Jorrod was preparing to cook lunch.
But Sienna couldn't stop thinking about the massive blow he had taken the night before.
She blocked the kitchen doorway and forcefully lifted his shirt to inspect the damage.
A harsh, purplish bruise slashed diagonally across the man's bare back. The skin was noticeably swollen. It was a far cry from his dismissive "I'm fine."
She gently pressed a finger against the mark. Jorrod let out a muffled groan, the muscles beneath her fingertips instantly locking up in pain.
Furious, Sienna slapped him lightly on the shoulder. "Did you lose your mind last night? You call this nothing? If we had iced it immediately, it wouldn't be this bad."
Jorrod pulled his shirt back down, clearly feeling guilty, and kept his mouth shut.
Sienna immediately laid down the law: a strict one-week ban on intimacy. No sex, and definitely no kissing.
Only then did Jorrod finally open his mouth, protesting vehemently against the punishment.
His protests fell on deaf ears. Sienna clamped her hands over her ears, marched into the kitchen, and slammed the door shut, finally securing some peace and quiet.
Sienna ended up cooking lunch herself.
She was painfully aware of her own culinary limitations and had originally planned to order takeout. But since Jorrod had already prepped and chopped the ingredients, she refused to let good food go to waste and braved the stove herself.
The result was a massacre. Not only had she ruined the food, but the expensive seasonings had died in vain alongside it.
Sienna managed two bites before throwing her fork down in defeat.
Suddenly, a knock echoed from the front door.
"That's the repairman I called for the curtain rod. Keep eating, I'll go get it," Sienna announced, hurrying to the entryway.
She swung the door open.
It wasn't a repairman at all.
Harvey Miller stood in the hallway holding two plastic bags of various sizes, flashing her a goofy grin.
She suddenly remembered that Harvey's parents had returned from a vacation a few days ago with local delicacies, promising to send Harvey over with a batch for her and Elara.
Harvey placed the bags on the coffee table and glanced around the apartment.
His eyes instantly zeroed in on the broken metal rod resting on the floor and the glaringly bare window.
