The man's hoarse, ugly sobbing and that mask of pure terror forced their way into Jorrod's mind, making it feel as if an invisible vice was crushing his skull.
He could distinctly feel a nerve in his brain pulling taut, stretching right to the breaking point.
The ringing in his ears from the earlier near-miss intensified, echoing violently inside his head.
Crashing like waves, one after another.
The car accident, Wickham Industries, revenge...
Jorrod's head felt like it was going to split open. Forcing himself to stay calm, he turned to the sickeningly relaxed Nathaniel.
"So, he's the driver from the hit-and-run?"
Nathaniel crossed his arms and gave a nonchalant, "Yep."
Jorrod sneered. "And? I'm not a cop. Are you expecting me to fly into a blind rage and execute him in the dead of night to settle a personal vendetta?"
"DUI, hit-and-run, and arson. Hand him over to the police."
Nathaniel shoved his hands into his pockets, leaned down, and looked at Julian. "Tsk. Looks like Mr. Vaughn isn't pressing attempted murder charges. You've been graced by his saintly mercy."
Hearing this, Julian slumped, as if a massive weight had been lifted off him. Being handed to the cops was the best possible outcome.
Realizing what Nathaniel had just said, he violently snapped his head up, desperately denying the "attempted murder" accusation.
Nathaniel straightened up and suddenly let out a heavy sigh.
Jorrod glared at him. "You went through all this effort to drag him here, just to call it a 'birthday gift'? We aren't friends. What's your real angle?"
Nathaniel's lips twitched. "True, I have my own motives. But I did this for your own good."
"For my own good?" Jorrod almost laughed at the sheer absurdity.
Nathaniel confessed, "I was actually the one who recommended Dr. Evans to you."
Jorrod's eyes narrowed dangerously, but he stayed silent.
"So, I've been keeping tabs on your condition the whole time. All the test results show you're perfectly fine. Logically, you should have fully recovered your memory by now."
"Dr. Evans was confused too. He said you were probably just lacking the right 'stimulus.'"
"I have no idea what kind of random stimulus you needed, but I figured the guy who nearly killed you would leave a strong impression..."
