Sienna was not someone who had a low pain tolerance.
But when she woke up the next morning, the soreness was undeniable.
Aside from the full-body ache that made her feel like she had been in a brawl, the spot where he had bitten her pulsed with a sharp, lingering sting.
She remembered the time Jorrod had bitten her lip. It had felt exactly like this.
She, who usually loved spicy food, had been forced to eat bland meals for days.
She turned her head to look at the other side of the bed.
The man beside her had his eyes closed, seemingly fast asleep.
It was a rare sight for them—her awake while he was still deeply unconscious.
The blanket was draped over his waist, putting his smooth, sculpted back on full display. On his bare, pale shoulder, Sienna noticed a faint, purplish-red bite mark.
It was the mark she had left on him last night in pure retaliation when he had turned into a ruthless beast and refused to let her go.
Still nursing her grievance, Sienna didn't bother waking him up.
She got dressed, packed her things, and left for work.
During her lunch break.
Sienna pulled out her phone, intending to text him. Instead, she stared at the message she had sent that morning: "I'm angry, and I'm ignoring you even if you apologize."
It was just sitting there, ignored.
He hadn't apologized.
He hadn't even replied.
She glared at the screen, her irritation spiking.
After a moment, she slammed the phone face-down on her desk.
Whatever. Let him ignore her.
Sienna threw herself entirely into her tasks. When the clock struck the end of the workday, she stayed glued to her chair, showing no intention of leaving.
Mindy Monroe stretched her arms, grabbed her purse, and prepared to head out.
She paused when she saw Sienna next to her, looking deadly serious, typing away like she was ready to die for the company.
The sun had surely set in the east.
"Sienna! Sienna, get to the hospital, Jorrod is..."
The hesitation in his voice sent her heart racing.
"What's wrong with him? Did he get his memories back?"
Silas stammered for a second. "Just... just get here fast."
Sienna's mind instantly went blank.
A thousand horrific scenarios flashed through her head.
Without asking another question, she bolted up, grabbed her purse, sprinted downstairs, and drove straight to the hospital Silas had mentioned.
The stark white hospital room wreaked of harsh, biting antiseptics.
The overwhelming scent hit Sienna's nose the second she walked in. Looking at the man lying silently in the bed, eyes closed, it finally dawned on her that he had genuinely been a patient this entire time.
Besides her, a doctor and Silas stood by the bed.
Silas looked incredibly awkward, staring fixedly at the floorboards and refusing to speak.
