Sienna froze in place.
Jorrod looked as though he had just stepped out of the shower.
He was loosely wrapped in a pure black bathrobe, the belt tied carelessly around his waist. His hair was no longer soft and tousled; it was slicked back sharply, with only a few damp strands falling across his forehead, framing a face devoid of any warmth.
His bathrobe hung slightly open, exposing a swath of chest still glistening with moisture.
His neck was completely bare.
Her pendant was gone.
Sienna realized something else she hadn't seen in a long time.
He was wearing those thin, metal-rimmed glasses perched on the bridge of his straight nose.
The icy lenses seemed to completely block out any humanity as his dark eyes looked down at her from above.
It was a familiar face, a familiar body, a familiar man.
Every detail was exactly as it had been carved into her heart.
Except for that gaze—it was entirely foreign.
The look he gave her was flat. There was no affection, not even a flicker of lingering emotion.
He just stared down at her with absolute detachment.
Apathetic and freezing.
Jorrod gave her a fleeting, indifferent glance, treating her like an utter triviality, before slowly withdrawing his gaze.
His tall silhouette retreated, disappearing around the corner of the hallway.
It lasted a mere two seconds, but in that brief, frigid silence, Sienna felt like a century had passed.
It felt as if a sledgehammer had slammed into her chest. A suffocating wave of despair crashed over her, making her throat unbearably dry and tight.
She felt completely hollowed out.
"He recovered his memories, didn't he?"
Sienna looked over at Silas.
She stopped in front of it and stared down for a very long time.
There they were, tossed aside like trash. The familiar gifts she had given him, her clothes, and even the butterfly pendant that the man had once clung to with tear-filled eyes...
Silas stood nearby, aggressively grabbing Wesley, who was peeking over, and immediately deflected the blame.
He winked furiously at the young man. "How do you do your job?! Throwing everything away! Couldn't you tell these are Ms. Quinn's personal belongings?"
Wesley completely missed Silas's frantic signals. He felt incredibly wronged, knowing full well these were Mr. Vaughn's explicit orders.
"Mr. V—"
Before he could finish the name, Silas let out a violent cough. "You did this mess and you expect her to thank you?! Absolutely ridiculous! No thanks for you!"
Seeing Wesley looking bewildered and making things worse, Silas just wanted to shoo him away.
"Alright, we'll let it slide this time. Pack it up and store it away later. Don't let it happen again."
Wesley nodded repeatedly.
But Sienna, who had been completely silent, suddenly spoke. "It's all useless anyway. Since it's already packed up, just do me a favor and throw it in the trash."
