At noon, Sienna didn't even have time to officially request leave or grab lunch.
Her mind was still a complete blank when she finally saw Harvey.
"What happened? How did you get mixed up with Jorrod?"
Elara urged Harvey to tell Sienna everything.
Harvey was still seething with rage. "Sienna, just stay out of this!"
Even though Jorrod had manufactured this mess, Sienna was absolutely certain it had everything to do with her. How could she possibly ignore it?
Elara rubbed her temples. "We're already here. Just stop acting so tough."
Harvey spat on the ground. "Beg Jorrod for mercy? Not a chance! If I had another shot, I'd go right back and curse him out to his face!"
Sienna was stunned. "You cursed him out? No, why would you even provoke him? Weren't you two just acting like kindred spirits the other day?"
At the mention of their past camaraderie, Harvey awkwardly bit his lip.
After a long silence, under the worried gazes of his friends, he muttered, "I found out what happened to you. I was furious, so I went to get justice for you."
Sienna should have been touched, but the current situation left no room for sentimentality.
"That's it?" she asked in disbelief. "And then he just threw you in here for that?"
Harvey scowled. "I tried to hit him."
"You tried to hit him?!" Sienna was even more shocked.
Bringing this up was easily the most humiliating part of the entire ordeal for Harvey. "But I didn't even land a hit! How was I supposed to know that bastard had such good reflexes? He twisted my arm behind my back, and my elbow and wrist are still burning with pain."
Elara remembered this detail vividly. "Didn't Silas Lester mention that Jorrod had combat training?"
Harvey had absolutely no idea.
At the time, he had been too busy admiring the massive dial of his new watch to pay attention to anything else.
Sienna rubbed her forehead. "So, he pressed charges for disturbing the peace?"
Harvey fell silent again. "No... I was wearing his watch, so he accused me of theft..."
"..."
Sienna's head was throbbing.
From the looks of it, all that was left was sheer resentment.
As for Sienna...
She had to go clean up his mess.
-
Sienna drove to Harvey's apartment first to retrieve the belt.
Staring at the engraved initials on the inner leather, surrounded by the quiet hum of her car, her mind finally began to clear.
If Jorrod truly wanted to lock Harvey away, considering the astronomical price of that watch, they probably wouldn't have even been allowed to visit him.
The reality was that he likely hadn't disclosed the true value of the watch to the police.
She couldn't fathom why Jorrod had done it this way, but it proved there was still room for negotiation.
That didn't mean Sienna was in a peaceful state of mind, however.
Arriving back at the office, she tossed her purse onto her desk, pulled out the belt, and marched upstairs to find Jorrod, her expression completely frigid.
