Jorrod gave her a straightforward answer.
She was good with people.
Sienna temporarily interpreted this as him complimenting her social skills.
But it was all relative. If she was being compared to Jorrod himself, then literally anyone would be considered a master diplomat.
She didn't know Quincy personally, but she knew enough to recognize that the man was well into his fifties.
Sienna frowned, feeling entirely unconfident. "But I don't really have much experience socializing with men in their fifties."
Jorrod offered a single phrase: "Just try."
She could tell this was a desperate last resort, but she needed to make her terms clear upfront. "You want me to come along, fine. But win or lose, you have to keep your promise and clear things up with the police regarding Harvey."
The man shot her a cold, indifferent glare, refusing to answer, acting as if she had just said something incredibly offensive.
Sienna grew anxious. "Don't just ignore me. We had a deal. If you're going to act like this, I'm getting out of the car right now."
Jorrod stared at her panicked expression. "Aren't you going to record the conversation this time?"
His tone was thick with sarcasm, but Sienna actually pulled out her phone, muttering to herself, "Right, right. I absolutely have to record any conversation I have with you."
Jorrod suddenly felt a stifling knot of frustration tighten in his chest, though he couldn't quite pinpoint where it came from or why it was happening. He just pressed his lips into a thin line, refusing to speak.
"Hey, Jorrod, I'm starting the recording..." Sienna was practically ready to poke him.
At that moment, Jeremy turned around to inform her, "Mr. Vaughn ordered it handled yesterday. The paperwork should be fully processed by this morning."
"Oh." Sienna didn't turn off the recording. She had a second piece of business.
"Mr. Vaughn."
Jorrod looked at her.
"This trip technically counts as a business trip, right? Please make sure to reimburse my travel expenses."
Jorrod turned his head back to the front.
"Jeremy, make a note of that."
She forced a painfully fake smile. "Like you said, that happened when you lost your memory. If you can invalidate the expensive watch you gave my friend while you had amnesia, then there's no reason I can't take my phone back."
Jorrod let out an indifferent 'Oh.' "What a shame. I guess you'll just have to sue me too."
Sienna let out a cold scoff. "I'm not as petty, narrow-minded, vindictive, and spiteful..."
Jorrod shot her a sideways glance. "Are you just reciting a dictionary at me?"
Realizing she wasn't getting the phone back anytime soon, Sienna decided to stop engaging. She hadn't slept well that morning anyway. She shifted her body toward the door, rested her head against the window, and closed her eyes.
-
Sienna had no idea how long the car drove.
She had only intended to rest her eyes, but the cabin was quiet, and the faint scent of luxury leather was oddly soothing. By the time Jeremy woke her up, they had already arrived at their destination. She had slept through the entire second half of the trip.
Before arriving, she had imagined what Quincy's current residence might look like.
Perhaps a secluded, deeply elegant villa, or maybe a low-key but luxurious penthouse. She had already built up an image of a refined, sophisticated artist in her mind.
