"Go ahead, Mr. Vaughn. Let's say that one more time."
That vein on his forehead throbbed again.
"...I won't back out of the deal."
"Just in case, right? After all, you're the amnesiac type."
-
There were a lot of chickens in the coop, which meant a lot of eggs.
Today, this place witnessed a literal disaster of flying feathers and smashed shells.
While Quincy continuously lamented the fate of his eggs, he made sure nothing went to waste. He gathered all the cracked ones, washed them thoroughly, and scrambled up a massive plate, securing their dinner for the evening.
It was also Sienna's first time dealing with such short-tempered hens. She ended up covered in feathers and dead on her feet.
She served herself a massive bowl of food.
Jorrod's appetite, however, was nonexistent.
Remembering the chaotic mess from the afternoon, he felt like the stench of chicken feathers was still clinging to his skin.
And the eggs were a scrambled, smashed mess.
He couldn't stomach it.
Even the low wooden stool and tiny table felt agonizingly cramped. Sitting down, he had no room to stretch his long legs, feeling suffocated by the lack of space.
Quincy glanced at him, chuckling with evident amusement. "You can't even handle this, and you want to stay here?"
"Stay here???" Sienna nearly spat out her eggs.
Quincy shot her a look. "What, didn't your man tell you?"
Her man...
Sienna didn't even know which part of that to focus on.
Maybe vulgarity really was the ultimate form of elegance.
Holding her bowl and covering half her face, she leaned slightly closer to her 'man' and whispered, "Mr. Vaughn, then after dinner, I'll head back with Jeremy and the others."
Jorrod gave her a side-eye and said flatly, "They went back this morning."
"..." Sienna practically gritted her teeth. "Then how am I supposed to get back?"
Right at that moment, Elara called.
Sienna answered. The background noise was loud and chaotic, and she could faintly hear Harvey's voice. Unable to make out the words, she put the call on speaker.
Elara said, "Harvey's out and fine. He said he wanted to celebrate his release tonight and invited us to that local bar near your place. We're already here."
Sienna told the truth, "I'm not home, I can't make it."
Hearing the exhaustion in her friend's voice, Elara sounded confused. "What did you do today? Why do you sound so drained?"
Bringing it up only made Sienna feel more exhausted. "I spent the whole night handling Jorrod's eggs, and I am dead tired..."
Suddenly, Harvey's shocked and furious voice exploded through the phone. "Didn't you two break up?! Is this why he agreed to settle with me?"
Sienna massaged her temples. "Chickens, I meant chicken eggs."
"What's the difference?! That shameless psycho, just watch me kill him..."
*Beep.*
Sienna abruptly hung up the phone.
Stiffly, she raised her head and looked at the man who had just appeared in the doorway. "Hi, Mr. Vaughn. Good evening."
