Jorrod just watched her, his gaze narrowing slightly.
-
Sienna suddenly remembered her phone.
"Mr. Vaughn..."
The lighting in the backseat was dim. When Sienna turned around, she unexpectedly met the man's dark, deep-set eyes in the shadows. As she looked back, his obscure gaze naturally settled on her face.
The intensity of his stare made her heart skip a beat, and the rest of her sentence caught in her throat.
"Why are you looking at me?"
Jorrod finally shifted his gaze without a word. Sienna could only see the sharp contours of his profile hidden in the shadows, devoid of any emotional shift, as if his previous look had just been a casual glance.
Sienna brushed it off. Seeing he wasn't going to reply, she pressed on with her own agenda. "When are you going to give me my phone back?"
Jorrod's eyelashes lowered. After a long moment, he slowly lifted his gaze and drawled, "I'll look for it when we get back."
That answer immediately made Sienna knit her brows. "Don't tell me you can't find it."
He replied, "I won't."
"Hold on, I'm recording this."
"..."
Sienna turned fully around in her seat.
Jorrod's gaze quietly fell on her once more.
By now, the sky had brightened considerably. The morning sun poured through the window, washing over her neck. The loose strands of her hair caught the light, glowing like spun gold, and framed the shell of her ear, illuminating it until it looked almost translucent.
Jorrod's Adam's apple bobbed. He closed his eyes and let out a faint sigh. "Sienna."
Sienna turned back. "Yeah?"
"Come sit in the back."
"Why?" Sienna didn't understand.
Jorrod spat out one word. "Eyesore."
Sienna frowned. "Why are you so difficult?"
