The driver was momentarily unsure if he should listen to the girl.
While she respectfully called his boss Mr. Vaughn, her fierce tone made it sound like she was ready to step on his boss's face at any second.
He figured she probably called the shots here.
He glanced up at the rearview mirror. Seeing that his boss didn't stop him, he obediently pulled the car over at the next intersection.
Sienna pushed the door open, stormed over to the passenger side, and got right back into the front, not forgetting to thank the driver.
She zipped up her hoodie, pulled the hood over her head, found a comfortable position, put on her earphones, and leaned against the window.
First she was an eyesore, then he sarcastically called her smelly. Who could stand his terrible temper?
Jorrod remained silent the entire time.
He just watched her get out and get back in, until her figure completely shrunk into the confines of the passenger seat.
He couldn't see her anymore.
With a faint, almost imperceptible sigh, the man finally managed to chase away his chaotic thoughts. He tilted his head back, rested against the soft headrest, and closed his eyes.
The drive wasn't exactly short.
Knowing Jorrod was resting in the back, the driver kept the car moving smoothly and steadily the entire way.
By the time they reached Aurelia, Jorrod had already been awake for a while.
"Sienna."
In the quiet air, Jorrod spoke up, only to be met with total silence.
He was being ignored.
The driver glanced at the passenger seat and gently reminded him, "Mr. Vaughn, she has her earphones in."
Jorrod lowered his gaze, leisurely picking up the phone resting by his leg. His long fingers tapped the screen as he found a specific number.
He dialed it.
Sienna was happily listening to her music.
Sienna said her goodbyes and stepped out. Just as she closed the door, she realized Jorrod had gotten out of the car right behind her. The man reached out, grabbing her wrist right over the cuff of her hoodie.
She stopped, and Jorrod pulled her hand closer, smacking a velvety object into her palm.
Looking down, Sienna realized it was The Crimson Keepsake Quincy had tried to give her earlier that morning.
She looked up in shock.
Jorrod stood opposite her, his gaze falling on her calmly. "Quincy gave this to you. Keep it."
Sienna gave it a squeeze. It felt bulging, hard, and slightly smooth inside, like some kind of jade heirloom.
She refused. "I don't want it. This is for your girlfriend; it's meaningful. You hold onto it and return it to him later."
Clutching the pouch, Sienna tried to hand it back to him.
Jorrod didn't move a muscle.
He just looked at her face, letting the corner of the pouch lightly poke against his chest, and said in an even tone, "He gave this to you in the moment. The significance of it going to Sienna Quinn outweighs the title of a girlfriend. Keep it. If you really don't want it, you can return it to him yourself the next time you see him."
