After enduring the harsh living conditions of the past few days, Jorrod didn't stay at the office too late.
By around eight o'clock, he packed up his work and called it a night.
The interior of the car was dead silent—so quiet that the driver could hear the repeated chimes of a phone unlocking, locking, unlocking, and locking again from the backseat.
The driver couldn't help but sneak a few glances in the rearview mirror.
Under the rapid flashes of the white streetlights blurring past the window, he saw Jorrod staring down at the phone resting on his lap. His thumb continuously stroked the edge of the device, clearly weighed down by something on his mind.
"Stanley."
Jorrod suddenly looked up, his gaze crashing right into the driver's nosy stare.
The driver guiltily averted his eyes. Thankfully, his boss didn't press the issue, simply asking in a casual tone, "Let me ask you a question."
He was both puzzled and amused. What on earth could he possibly advise his boss on?
Still, since the boss had spoken, he hurried to respond. "Go ahead, Mr. Vaughn."
Jorrod seemed to hesitate for a second. "I have a friend who lost a portion of his memory due to an accident. If he goes back and looks at the chat history between himself and his girlfriend now, would that be considered invading her privacy?"
It was a strange question, but the answer was undisputed. "Of course not," the driver replied. "He should look as much as he wants. The girlfriend should be filling him in on their daily life, too. With a double dose of stimulation, it might even speed up his recovery."
Jorrod quickly realized his flaw.
His description wasn't entirely accurate.
He added, "But they're already broken up."
The driver froze. "He broke up with her the moment he got his memories back? That's pretty heartless. Mr. Vaughn, you should keep your distance from someone like that."
Jorrod remained silent for a few seconds.
He defended himself again, "But during his amnesia, the man was forced into intimacy by her."
The driver was flabbergasted. "A grown man got forced into it? Did she tie him up or something?"
Jorrod's expression darkened noticeably. He kept quiet for a long moment before saying, "Pretty much."
Now the driver was stunned into silence.
Only the sound of their breathing filled the quiet cabin, making the atmosphere remarkably awkward.
"Heh, young folks sure know how to play. Guess I'm just getting too old to understand," the driver chuckled nervously. At the very end, he couldn't help but marvel, "But your friend must really trust you, sharing something as intimate as getting tied up and taken advantage of..."
After that remark, the sporadic conversation plummeted into total silence.
Jorrod flipped the phone face-down.
Not long after, he flipped it back up.
He stopped reading the chat history, swiping directly into the photo album instead.
There were barely any photos of the two of them together; it was almost entirely composed of Sienna's selfies.
Various angles, different expressions, most of them saved directly from their chat.
Jorrod guessed that his past self had probably saved every single picture she sent, hoarding them until the album was nothing but a wall of Sienna Quinn.
Occasionally, a few pictures of his own abs were sprinkled into the mix.
The angles were haphazard, seemingly snapped in a hurry.
